IT'S A ROCK'N ROLL BAND, NOT A FUCKING RELIGION!

Thinking about it, I should post this msg on 95% of the topics on every section....
If someone would be so nice and show me the way to the grownup section of the board???
[/quote]

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou

Well said
The near religious weirdo mentality around here at times is both funny and disturbing. (eg...posts/topics about abandoning friends that dont like GNR / accusing Axl's ex's of ' deserving it' ( mostly from yrs ago)
....all the angry bitter chat about ex members (encouraged - as any independent thinker realises on this board ).....The overly critical abuse the new band -( admittedly mostly deleted)....no matter what your opinion.  they made a REALLY good record.

Id LOVE a new section on this board where (what I consider) true fans can discuss topics openly without either being 'haters' or embarrassing 'fanboys'.

Perhaps a 'fans with a life' section Smiley

To jarmo once again, u are tryin to say what I haven't said.

Saying I hate Catcher's solos and TIL's solo in no way  means I hate all the guitar playing cause I don't. I think I've made it very clear as to what I like and what I don't like.

So those two solos make up 75% of the album's guitars?

that kid is good. But why would they need him? i think he was just going to hang out with them and have some fun. But i still think there will be 4 players on tour with guns this years. He brings a old guns style in to the fold if this is anything to even be talking about.

If he goes and plays with the band, and they decide he belongs, that's good enough for me. If they decide he isn't the right fit, that's good enough for me too.

For me, and I am speaking only for myself, none of Axl's musical choices have ever let me down.

Hi there guys

Long time lurker, first time poster. Here comes a clarification on the whole "Nick Sterling in GNR" thing :

Quote from: 'Bumblefoot'
I've known Nick and his family for years, missed them last month at NAMM, so invited him to hang and jam while he was in town visiting an amp company.

I'm sure Nick meant nothing devious or self-serving, he just responded innocently to the guy holding the camera.

And there you have it.  ok

thanks a lot.  It's just us being too nosy and busy. seemingly almost everybody likes nick tho.

regardless hope they had/are having a great time at the studio.

Jesus Christ, get a grip on your self and stop behaving like a f***ing 5 y.o. How gives a f**k how old a person is or how he looks or what ever? If the kid is in the band or not, if there is a video coming, if there's a secret marketing plan or if aliens are abducting matt sorums sisters boyfriends brother in law....
how gives a f**k, as long as the music is good?

IT'S A ROCK'N ROLL BAND, NOT A FUCKING RELIGION!

is a religion like that?  non stop fuss and feathers for nothing?

14 songs, I like 11 of the songs guitar parts

only songs I don't are IRS,Catcher and TIL

so 11/14 is around 75 percent.

yeah u are right, but I'd say I base it more on how I am feeling when I listen. I have started threads and people throw out percentages just off the top of their heads without really sitting down and making it full on mathematical.

Guitar solo wise, I do like 75 percent of the solos.

If we are talking guitar riff wise, yeah, u probably can reverse that.

The thing that still lacks on CD for me, is the guitar riff. It is a lot of nu metalish power chord riffing.

so yeah, power chord progressions with Axl singing over them isn't what I really expect from a guitar band like GNR

If u think about it, Rhiad has a pretty cool riff but where most of the songs are piano ballads, there aren't a shit ton of Guitar riffs to speak of.

CD riff is ok.. kind of grungy for my taste, I find the whole Better intro annoying, IRS has no riff to speak of, Scraped is cool, Rhiad is cool although Im not a big fan of the song.

If The World is great

other than that, the solos are really the meat and potatoes of the guitar playing on the album and I like 75 percent of the solos

the other guitar stuff, not as much.

now everyone start your flaming stuff

I know I know, I am a Myspace guitar player so how dare I say anything

I know I know, I am just some random hater guy

I know I know

whatever...........

Chinese intro new metal?

IRS has no riff? WTF is Robin doing then?

Just power chords? Please don't tell me you think IRS, Scraped and Better are power chords-based.

You don't even know what are you talking about. Seriously, stop.

The rhythm guitar parts on Better are all dropped-D power chords. Most of the rhythm parts on those songs mentioned are power chords, but not any more so than any of the other stuff GNR has put out in the past.

No, Better is way more than that.

The main chords of the song:

Bb
----8----
----10---
----10---
----8----
----8----
----8-----

D:
----8-----
----10---
----10---
----0----
----0----
----0-----

F:
----3-----
----6---
----5---
----3----
----3----
----3-----

All this with Drop D, of course. And please, tune your guitar half step down.

I wouldn't call this a mere power chords.

Scraped has a riff going on within the rythm (more like WTTJ), not just some power chords progression.

IRS has a lot of riffs throughout the song by Ron and some by Richard. Also, Paul Tobias plays some chorus-driven rhythm guitar.

I am talking Main Riffs Voodoo

U don't have those power riffs like u would get on GNR albums past or Death Magnetic or something.

I love big guitar riffs, that is just me maybe but that is a lot of my point, u guys try to make Rhiad out to be Whole Lotta Love or something

So u point me to a song on here that has that big ball breaking guitar riff. The Better breakdown kicks ass, I said the CD riff was GRUNGY not nu metal.

yeah, and i was referring to the main rhythm parts. Using yourself as a source isnt exactly credible. You make it seem like theres something wrong with power chords. Your tabs aside, every other tab expresses the rhythm parts as power chords. Watch them play it live, power chords.

Arguing about not using power chords in a rock song is totally ignorant of the whole basis of rock music in general

Of course, if you don't count on It's So Easy, Think About You, My Michelle...

You said: "The thing that still lacks on CD for me, is the guitar riff. It is a lot of nu metalish power chord riffing."

And "big ball breaking" is pretty subjective. I love Riad's riff, but you don't seem to agree.

yeah, and i was referring to the main rhythm parts. Using yourself as a source isnt exactly credible.
Those are the main rhythm chords. Try it and you'll see it. I didn't pretend to put a source to make it sounding more credible, but just from where I took it.

Hell, just watch any 2006 bootleg and you'll see Robin playing those chords.

You make it seem like theres something wrong with power chords. Your tabs aside, every other tab expresses the rhythm parts as power chords. Watch them play it live, power chords.
Just try my tab. Those tabs you're talking about all get it wrong, just like the intro. Watch Hammerstein May 12th and you'll see Robin playing. Ron Thal played simple power chords, tho, because he was using a regular tuned guitar, I believe.

And I don't see anything wrong with power chords. I'm just pointing out that there is more going on than just power chords.

Arguing about not using power chords in a rock song is totally ignorant of the whole basis of rock music in general
Im not arguing anything. Its just that all those songs are full of riffs and licks along with regular power chords. It is totally ignorant, yes, to judge a song by the use of this type of chord. Or to not recognize when there's no power chord at all.

I would call "Scraped" a song with a big face-smashing riff.  Smiley
