What a lack of original idea. Come up with your own concept...

Copying the "LIES" cover IS their concept.  Its an homage. Its more of an original idea than having some marketing guy come it with generic artwork.

This is along the lines of what alot of newer bands do. You'll see a t-shirt for some shit new band and they'll have the nerve to put their band name in someone else's font. Like AC/DC or Metallica, something really obvious. It's like, if you are trying to get yourself noticed, how's about you do it on talent instead of trying to catch someone's eye if they're a fan of someone else.
That's because most bands these days are talentless and derivative.

It's not an homage if the source isn't credited and reimbursed, it's stealing.

Well, the general idea had been used before... But in that case it's a straight adaptation.

I think some people are getting confused between a parody/tribute and a rip-off...

is this a rip-off or an homage?
If its blatantly obvious what you are referencing, its an homage/tribute.  Thats what this band is doing with the LIES cover.  They arent trying to hind the fact that its inspired by the GNR cover.

I dont think they did it for publicity. They probably just wanted to pay tribute to GNR.

You mean the one where Motley Crue ripped off the Rolling Stones' "Sticky Fingers?"

and obviously these guys are no different.  what a bunch of tool bags.  trying to rip off axl and gnr to make a name for themselves?  pathetic.  i hope axl sues these clowns so they don't try and ruin any more gnr covers.

Pretty darn lame if you ask me.  Makes you appreciate the origianal cover more!

If it makes you (and possibly others) appreciate the original more, it can't be all that lame? Sounds like a successful homage.
