I suppose Catcher in the Rye sounds a bit Beatles-esque in some respects. And maybe a wee bit Queen.

i hear a little NIN/Manson/Zombie on Shackler's, but it is not an industrial song like alot of people are saying..."Sorry" makes me think of Pink Floyd a little maybe a little AIC as well...those are just off the top of my head...It is hard to say, but these are just elements of songs...The songs themselves as a whole sound very original, the type of stuff I have never heard before

Arabic feel with If The World and Riad N The Bedouins. Prositute and This I Love sound similar to Queen, Better, TWAT, Chinese Democracy, IRS, Scraped, sound like Modern GnR. Probaly Better and IRS sound more sleaze rock just a tad.

Dunno if this was what Axl intended but I have always seen Cather in the Rye as a very Queen esque song. Start of Sorry reminds me of Pink Floyd.

Buckethead.....
Especially on "Sorry." I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but musically that song sounds like it comes straight from Electric Tears.

Loads of Queen and Elton John, otherwise nothing else jumps out at me, personally. Obviously there are genre influences (hip hop, grunge, etc).

There's something about "Scraped" that reminds me of The Who's "My Generation".

The original demo had a really big Beatles influence. It faded out like "Hey Jude" in a way. Of the songs I wish Axl Rose had not touched up or changed it was "Catcher in the Rye". The demo ranks up higher to me than the Album version.

I heard half of Chidem in a bar today, and a friend of mine thought Chinese democracy (the song) was smashing pumpkins..

Chinese Democracy got this feel to it for me....Just listen to
Josh Freese's song on his Myspace page..... called "I Don't Think That's OK"
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=54648841
I feel and think that Chinese Democracy (the song that is) has a Punk-Rock style to it...mostly the leaked version of the song. It sounds a lot more polished on the albums offical release version now though. Great GN'R song IMO

Sir. Elton John on "The Blues/Street Of Dreams". I remember thinking and feeling that way the first time I heard the song from the live leak that was most likely recoreded live from a sound board, cause I also remember it being a pretty good version of the song recorded live unoffically. I listened to that version a shit load of times. I do recall though on the first few listens of "The Blues/Street Of Dreams" that it did reminded me and other friends of mine that I played the song for also thought that it sounded like Sir. Elton John.
What another Great song from GN'R out of the 14 Amazing songs that were offically released on their Chinese Democracy album.

Not sure I hear Pumpkins on the track CD, but Better definitely has Pumpkins elements
The guitar intro as well as the riff both sound like something Billy Corgan would do

I detect a strong influence from the later Led Zeppelin abums (Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, and In Through the Out Door). I think that Axl has on some level followed Zeppelin's lead in expanding his trademark hard rock sound into new and epic places.
Also, I can't help but be reminded of Michael Jackson's 1995 album HIStory. Seriously, there are quite a lot of similarities. Like MJ's album, there are a lot of different musical styles, plenty of studio wizadry and some quite touching and revealing lyrics about the artist's struggles. One song on HIStory (the title track), even samples Martin Luther King Jr.
It probably wasn't a direct influence (and there is nothing on C.D. that is nearly as heinous as 'Earth Song'
), but there are definitely paralells.
