I'm about 99% sure it wasn't eligible for this year.  I remember hearing the cutoff date but I forget exactly what it was, only that it was before Nov. 23rd.

how could this album not sweet the grammies?

i'm sorry, but anyone who thinks this won't take album/record of the year is fooling themselves.  can you point to another album that's this amazingly complex and emotionally deep?  this year, or any year?  no.  i've listened to this album probably 400 times.  there's simply no way i could do that unless it was a once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece.

there are people that too strongly oppose the album and then there are people who are too strongly for the album. The happy medium is that a song or two off of it could possibly get best hard rock performance. It won't sweep the grammy's, trust me. Just because you listen to something repetitively doesn't mean it's a "once in a lifetime masterpiece." I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but come on...

well, how do you explain the fact that i have listened to this album so many times and still think it's amazing?  how would this i love continue to make me misty eyed, months after hearing it for the first time?  the only explanation is that it is truly a masterpiece.  fyi, i know a whole lot about music.  i'm something of an expert, so i think i know a thing or two about what makes a masterpiece.  and cd is a masterpiece if there's ever been one.

if the grammy's fail to recognize this and give it a lot of awards, then they will just prove once and for all how stupid and ignorant and biased they are.

Opinions...
I thought we were passed this.
The amount of time something took to surface has no relevance to it's quality.
That is simply poor rhetoric.

again i will state that i do not post not because i am without opinions perhaps i am a voyeur j/k but every once in a while i read something that pushes me to respond someone saying this record is not good or did not live up to expectations is nonsense.  i do not care how long axl spent on the record or how much money was spent  this recording process was unique and unprecedented for reasons that are obvious and not so obvious. but 1-14 you would be hard pressed to find any album that is as diverse and listenable as this one. at the end of the day a record is a collection of songs that in some way when done right moves you. in my opinion axl and co. have done this and then some.  if expectations in some peoples minds meant more then a kick ass musical journey shame on you  perhaps you were expecting a blowjob with chinese democracy thats your responsibility not axls he delivered on his end!

The official cutoff was...........September 22nd. So no, its not 2009. Its available for NARAS nominations for February of 2010, where it will win in several categories.

I think it's pointless to try to predict which album will win a grammy. It's not like they'd let the public decide.  Roll Eyes

I disagree. The Grammy is still a very important award in the music biz.  The problem, at least for me, is trying to watch a show giving these awards to people like the jonas brothers, when there are actually albums from gnr and ac/dc

-Herbie Hancock won Album of the Year at last year's Grammys

-Led Zeppelin never won a Grammy during their heyday

I could go on but those 2 facts alone should tell you how relevant the Grammys are.

i hate the fact that it was released too late to be nominated this year.  it'll be old news by the time the next grammy's happens.  the newness will have worn off and we'll be the only ones still listening to it cause we understand this band

Didn't Metallica's "And Justice For All" once miss out on a Hard Rock/Metal grammy to a Jethro Tull album?  Not slating Jethro Tull, but they're quite clearly not metal/hard rock.
Anyway that shows exactly how much the grammy judges know/what a grammy is worth.  Although I don't think Chinese Democracy will win a grammy, personally.

A Grammy nomination probably won't happen. Of course the album deserves one or more, but come on... I just don't think it would happen. I'm not even trying to be negative at all because GN'R has always been my favorite band, but the Grammy's won't recognize this amazing album at all.

I don't know about that, the "monumental promotional campaign" may just be ready to kick in prior to next years grammy's.

On a more serious note, this album could have a pretty long shelf life if they choose for it to.  There are plenty of more options for singles as long as they feel it's worth it to keep releasing singles.  I hear 3 songs semi-regularly on Sirius Octane (Shackler's, TWAT, and Sorry) not to mention the 2 singles wich are in regular rotation.

It was released too late to be considered.

And mark my words,

Come 2010, it won't win any grammies that year either.

I think Axl should actually appear on the 2009 grammies. Would be sweet. Good promotion too.
