If Victorino was pulling back from the bunt, 99 times out of 100, the batter gets the call. It's only if there was an actual swing (or if he had remained squared to bunt) that the "hand as part of the bat" rule comes in to play.
Look at the picture.
Look where the ball is.
Look at the bat.
He was squared.
You can't go on a photo alone. If the bat was further out before the ball hit him and he was in the process of pulling it back when he was hit, the call will go in his favor. Video is the only way to go on this, not a still image.
A) The photo is about .5 seconds before impact.
B) Then watch the video. I have, repeatedly. It was on both ESPN and MLB.com. He doesn't move.

Every situation is different. If he was offering at the ball, then you're right it should've been a foul ball. But I don't think he was trying to bunt the ball at that point. He was in self defense mode, he just didn't have enough time to get out of the way since the ball was up and in.
He doesn't MOVE.
I've watched the video over and over again. Doesn't even flinch.
If he was in self defense mode, the ump was reading his mind. It's possible he froze in the headlights...but there's no way to be certain without guessing.
We squared, offered, and didn't move.
Foul ball.

the guy jumped (on purpose) from the upper deck. i was in the lower deck. his legs hit me on the top of my head and he landed in the row in front of me. i was standing and i just got slammed to the ground. i'm just thankful i was able to walk away. he could have broke my spine if i was standing at a different angle, or broke my back and several bones if he landed directly on top of me. i ended up in the ER right next to this d-bag - he had a ruptured spleen.
as for tonight. i think second time seeing pedro's poor excuse for a fast ball will serve the yanks well.
What a bonehead. I'd contact the venue, too, and let them know. If he was ejected afterwards (and I'd hope he was), they should have record of who he is. And you could file both civil AND criminal (reckless endangerment, at least) charges against him.
That was just stupid.

If the series doesn't end tonight. Tomorrow has the potential to be interesting weather wise. There's a 60% of showers. If its rained out the yanks get a fully rested Sabathia and the Phils well they're even more screwed. They'd have either a completely rested Hamels or Blanton. That can't exactly make Philly fans feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I just saw the video, and from the angle I saw, he was trying to get out of the way. As for it being .5 seconds before impact, you are aware that a pitch gets from the pitcher's hand to the plate in roughly .5 seconds, right?

Damn you Tim McCarver.
Tonight's Home Depot "tools of the game" (or whatever the hell they're called)?
Phils: Win.
Yanks: Get 27 outs (a fancy way of saying "Win")
I say we give Corky from Life Goes On a shot at this gig next season. It can't get any worse.

I'm getting very tired of Fox coming dangerously close to missing starts of innings with 50 million commercials. Is this happening to everyone else?

Like i said earlier Pettitte does not know how to fail in this situation. The man is a winner period. This is his 6th clincher and he has clinched every round for us this year. Fitting.

Well deserved too. He was other worldly the way he hit this world series.
