Twins have had way too many mental errors in this series. So many baserunning blunders and way too many strikeouts.

Goodbye twinkies. No way they score 3 times on Rivera.

Don't think they formally award MVPs in the LDS but if they did - he's it.

Yeah no MVP awards in the LDS but he's without a doubt the unofficial MVP of the series. He had so many clutch hits that either tied the game or gave us the lead. I hope he can keep it going in the LCS.

Wow....

wow is right! i really thought the magic from last year was gone, and it was the other teams making the memorable plays (hurdling Utley was amazing). but then they come back and Rollins, Utley, Howard have incredible ABs. what a freakin game! and apparently, Howard went into the dugout after the 8th and said "just get me an AB - i'll take care of this." total clutch.

Lidge gets back to back saves with Tulowitski making the last out both times. but i still don't have faith him. both of those ABs were awful. season on the line and he basically didn't even swing yesterday. and the ball he popped up Monday morning around 2:14am EST should have been in the bleachers.

i still believe the phillies season will end on a walk-off hit. probably with lidge on the mound but could be any of our struggling relievers.

Wait till A-Rod strikes out twice or doesn't produce in a clutch spot -- he'll be back.

Marmite Militia, taking over one piece of toast at a time!!!

« Reply #796 on: October 13, 2009, 02:23:54 PM »

Was listening to some sports talk radio this am (might have been mike and mike...can't remember as I flip around) and heard this stat:

A-rod has played 42 post season games in his career.  .291 average, 9 home runs, 25 RBI.

Reggie Jackson, after 42 games in the post season: .265 average, 5 home runs, 17 RBI.

Now, in game 43, Reggie hit 3 home runs, went 4 for 4, and knocked in 6 RBI.  And I'm certainly not saying that A-rod = Reggie/Mr. October.  But it does go to show that much of A-rod's percieved post-season failure is mythical in nature.  Certainly, no one is denying he had an awful stretch from 2004 ALCS game 5 til the end of the ALDS in 2007...he did.  But it's not like he was a sub .200 hitter who'd failed at every opportunity in the PS.

Anyway, I just thought those were interesting numbers.

I hope he can keep it up against the Angels. We're gonna need him. I liked his jester towards the yankee dugout after hitting the 2 run hr. It was like he was saying don't worry guys i've got your backs and in 2 consecutive games he did.

if you're gonna talk great MLB players, Ryan Howard HAS to be in the mix. i would take him over anybody. he actually has won a ring, hit 3 HRs in the WS, and just knocked in 6 to lead the phils over the rockies.

also, he was the fastest to 200 HRs in the history of baseball.
