How poetic .....
Pettitte on the mound ... Posada catching ... Mariano closing the game when Derek breaks the record!!!
That would be perfect doing it with the guys he came up with in the game. I think he will do it tonight.
I miss Tino Martinez, Cone, Brosius, and Paulie.
I hope those true Yankees are in attendance when Derek breaks the record.
I saw Tino was there the other night...not sure if he has stayed for all the games or not but he was definitely there the first night.

They should put him on waivers...don't wanna inflate his ego with this record.
I don't think either those are likely to happen.

Haha oops i forgot its an off day. Odd to have a off day right in the middle of the homestand. I would bet on him getting it very next game though.
I think the Yanks have EVERY Thursday off from now til the end of the season....

If there is ONE player who does NOT have much of an ego, it's Jeter.

It wasn't a comment on his ego, so much as a "waive him" joke. I remember when Ripken was about to be the new iron man, and many called on him to sit out (or get benched) to preserve the legacy of Gehrig.

That can't exactly work with Jeter
. He'd have to retire to preserve Gehrig's record.

Isn't it just a Yanks record? That's why I say waive him! Let him play...but elsewhere. We must protect Gehrig!

Can't wait for Manny's return. The reception should be interesting. He'll probably get booed, but he really shouldn't. With all the crap he put the Sox through and how he pretty much quit on the team at the end of his tenure, he did earn every penny of his contract up til that point and helped bring home 2 World Series trophy. Can't take that away.

I don't think he will be back with the Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles County, City of Los Angeles next year.

Didn't he sign a 2 year deal before the season started?

He's unhappy with the second year of his contract being deferred.

The posts at Fenway are lovely. And the seats in right field that are facing center field are something else too. The ballpark is fantastic, but the seats leave a few things to be desired.

Manny's return to Boston will hopefully inspire the most booing of any ballplayer ever to enter the Fens - Bucky Fucking Dent included.
As much I loath everything Red Sawk these days, he quit on both his team and the fans and cheated while doing it. An absolute disgrace.
Who knows about his future in LA next year - still very puzzled how/why a storied franchise
like the Dodgers would embrace and promote (Mannywood?? Are you kidding me??) such a posterboy for everything wrong in baseball.
