seriously ... if A-Rod did that in a World Series game, it would be considered "clutch" ... not saying this wasn't great, just saying it doesn't change my opinion of A-Rod when a money game is on the line.

Burnett was definitely clutch. He deserved a W tonight so bad. Its too bad he didn't factor in the decision cause he pitched his ass off. You'd like to see less walks but you can't ask for much better than 7 2/3 of one hit ball.

When the starters keep the team in the game, you know more often than not, the Yankees bats are gonna explode ... and it makes it more likely that they'll pick up those little hiccups like Coke had.

This team has since mid june become scary good. Their starting pitching and bullpen has been fantastic and they've been getting timely and clutch hitting. You never feel the game is over with if they get behind. They just don't give up at all. When they went down 2-1 tonight i never felt it was over and i was right. This is a team i would not wanna face in the playoffs. If they pitch and hit like this come october watch out.

You're using A-Rod's Seattle numbers to justify his Yankee failures?  No one will judge him as a Mariner, you're just using his average there in the playoffs to bump up his career postseason average.  What a shady tactic.

His career is his career.  It ALL counts.  And, as is plainly obvious, I broke out all pertinent sections.

Might want to read what I wrote, instead of reading INTO it.  I asked a question.  "What epic collapse"?, and then postulated what you might be talking about.  Honestly, I thought maybe you were confused and thought I was talking about 2004.  In addition to that, it's not really relevant to the discussion, anyway.  What was relevant were A-rods stats...his most recent performance in the playoffs. I mean, you can't possibly try to lay the "collapse" (?) at his feet in 2007.  Nice try at deflection, though.

When you have no more useless "evidence" to back up A-Rod, you go on to say we don't "get it."  That's fine with me, I won't consume my time with meaningless, yes, MEANINGLESS numbers that help cope with the losing.  You can "pump your chest" and rip out your hair all you want, but LIPS and PECOTA don't really mean anything to me or to most baseball fans.  THAT right there is what I think is fluff.  Don't think you're something special just because you use sabermetrics to judge someones impact on the game.

Nice spin job by the way.  I didn't imply that REASONABLE stats were useless, I said that YOUR computer whiz kid stats were pretty useless, especially when you use them to justify Choke-Rod's paltry postseason numbers.

Again, bury your head because the numbers don't lead you to the emotional conclusion you want.  Fair enough.  Discount the numbers because you don't like them or don't understand them.  Fair enough.   But then why even try to carry on when all you're delivering is bluster and chest thumping.  I don't get it?  How many times and ways do you feel the need to say "I don't like A-rod no matter what the numbers and history actually say!!"...without actually just saying it?

Just because "they don't mean anything to you" doesn't mean they don't mean anything.  They're still a representation of what has actually occured.  Like it or not.  It's like saying calculus doesn't mean anything to you.  No matter what you say, you're never, ever going to get past that.

Felt like Yankee Stadium to me on BOTH nights. Place was ROCKING!  A-rod was clutch (big time) last night.  Felt almost like kismet.

Two of the best regular season games I've seen, live.  The crowd was ELECTRIC for both games and the place was ROCKING.  Man, if that's the feel we'll get going into the playoffs...YOWZA!  I'm BEAT, though....and completely emotionally drained. 

Going back on Wednesday for the day game against Toronto.

I'm leaning toward yes, but I'm not sure I'd go that far.

Here's the case FOR:
25-8 score for the series.  31 consecutive scoreless innings for the Sox.  2 runs in a 33 inning stretch.  The Sox NEVER ended an inning in the lead (1/2 innings, yes..but not by the end of the inning).  And. most important, the series gives the Yanks a decent 6.5 game lead, and drops the Sox into a tie for the wildcard.

Case against: 

2 of the games were VERY close until late.  The classic on Friday night was close until morning (and was even close, then...it was just over).  It's sorta tough to call it a "massacre" because the outcomes of those games weren't exactly set in stone.

What's the concensus?

That works for me and that the sox are in a whole lot of trouble. They've NEVER come back this far back from the yankees to win the division and with the yankees regularly winning 7, 8, 9 in a row its gonna be hard for boston to come back.

IF the Yanks were to go 25-26 the rest of the way (and I think they'll do considerably better than that)...the Sox would need to go 32-20, or play .615 baseball over the next 52 games, to TIE for the division lead.

The fat lady certainly ain't singing, yet...but she's tuning up. The Yanks add 2 or 3 more games to their lead...or hold this lead for 10 - 12 games...and the Sox are looking at climbing Everest to get back into this thing.

And right NOW, the Sox gotta keep an eye on Texas and TB.  This morning, they're not even all alone in the Wild Card lead.

I wouldn't be surprised it the Sox lost 3 of 4 in the series, I'd hope they could win at least the Beckett or Lester game.  The only thing that would really surprise me would be a sweep on either side.

The injuries REALLY got to them last year.  In 2008, this was right around when we had the last set of really bad ones...they just gutted uthe Yanks completely.  I think, at that point, with the arms they had in the rotation and pen and the injuries they'd suffered, those that were left were just demoralized beyond recovery.  They just didn't believe in themselves (and, likely, with good reason the way TB and Boston were playing) and they closed up shop (metaphorically speaking) and shut it down.

I'm liking Tex, too.  He hasn't supplanted DJ, Mo, or Jorge quite yet...but he's creeping up there.

I'm also partial to Melky...my kids love him and he's been nice to me TWICE during BP and gifted me a ball.  We've taken to calling him "The Rally Master" this year....after calling him "The Rally Killer" last year.
