Congratulations Obama! For pressuring the Senate to trim a whopping $1.75 billion off of the $679.8 billion "defense" budget. Only $600 billion and change to go before we bring our military spending down to China's level, who has the next biggest military budget at $70 billion.
I suppose it's a start?
We really should return to the old name: "Department of War".

Not sure what new info we learned about Obama's healthcare plan tonight. Seemed like a lot of softer questions with generalities for answers.
I'll never get that hour of my life back!

that healthcare plan sounds great to me..... just wonder what hidden stuff we weren't told about though??
Obama really should have got all the facts before calling the police officer "Stupid"
Turns out, the cop was in the right.
Obama doesn't have a stellar rep with the police. he cut a federal police program, didn't attend our memorial service for fallen officers.....

D, he prefaced his comment with, "I don't have all the facts...I am biased because he is a friend of mine...and he didn't say the officer was "stupid," he said he acted stupidly." The shame of the answer is that by talking about this one instance, it clouded the point he was trying to make about racial profiling being alive and well in the U.S. (which it is) same crime, whites do less time. every study confirms this. that's all.
...and I will mention I do believe he has a very good rep with police. He supports policies that will get guns out of the hands of criminals, he supports increasing the number of police officers on the street. In fact, Democrats in general support providing law enforcement greater funding. I wonder how John McCain's taking a meat cleaver to the federal budget would have affected law enforcement agencies.

The President did ok, but not great, last night. He needs to do better with his examples. He's making them up on the fly, and they don't make a ton of sense. Get some real stories/examples, memorize them, and drop them in when relevant...that would be my advice.
RE: cops acting stupidly...he shouldn't have spoken when the facts weren't clear. That was an error.

What is the difference AFP?
if I say you acted dumb....... am I not still calling u dumb?
People are too reactionary
If someone calls and says they see a burglary, if the cops go and the guy answers the door and says this is my house and they say "OK" and leave, then it turns out it wasn't, that cop not only loses his job but is the dumbest cop on the planet.
cops have protocols. When they pull u over, they aren't trying to be dickheads when they come to the glass, they are going by the book cause cops get murdered.
so if the guy had just said, here is my ID, thanks for responding, have a nice day, nothing would've happened.

No, you're not. You're attacking his actions, not his character. I've done some really stupid things in my life, and I'll be the first one to admit it. But I really wouldn't go calling myself dumb, and would probably not like it if someone else called that either. Surely everyone acts dumb every once in a while. Dumb people just do it on a regular basis...

D, Freedom, I think we all agree. The Gates fellow did not handle things well. I thought about it on my run last night. Freedom's right, the President didn't need to try and go into specifics on the topic. It should have been vaguely covered as an unfortunate incident and any sort of analysis should have been saved until all the information was collected.
I'm one of those people who believes in ridiculous deference to law enforcement. Yes sir, no sir, insurance card, license, dome light on, hands on top of steering wheel, etc. That whole situation was unfortunate. Honestly, the Gates fellow appears to be more in the wrong than the officer.
btw, I occasionally behave stupidly, and it doesn't mean I'm stupid. That said, my wife and I looked at each other during the press conference when he used the word stupidly, and we both shook our heads. "Not good," is what I said. It's sad this took away from the meat of the press conference which was the need for health care reform.

D has it right.
And for you, there's a lot of difference in calling someone a slut and saying someone looks like a slut. Someone who is a slut actually has sex. Looking slutty means you dress like a slut. You don't be a slut in order to dress like a slut. After all these years of living, if you don't know the difference between being a slut and looking like a slut, I'm not sure you'll ever understand.
On topic, it's quite apparent that B.O. acted 'stupidly' by opening his mouth and commenting on something he didn't even know all the facts about as he said but continued to go right on saying what he did.
As far as the jerk off claiming the police officer is racist, I have not seen any evidence so far to back up this claim whatsoever. It's obvious this jerk off has a racist chip on his shoulder and ran with the opportunity.
This entire ordeal reminds me of the Duke Lacrosse fiasco that took place a few years back.

This is really hard to explain in written word
But let's say I get into a fight and go to jail
someone can say, D acted violently
Now of course this doesn't mean I am a violent person BUT at that particular moment in time I was violent.
same with the stupidly thing
saying someone acted stupid is still calling them stupid.
It doesn't mean they are stupid 24 hours a day but in that particular moment they were stupid.
U can word it how u like, it is still if not the same thing, at least the same ballpark.

Round n' round. This is the part where I say that, since being a slut means you have lots of promiscuous sex, looking slutty must mean that you look like you do. Then I say that it's a weird thing to think about an 11 year old girl. Then you get defensive and claim that you aren't thinking sexually about pre-pubescent girls, despite the fact that you think this one, in particular, looks like she enjoys a good fuck.
And I do know the difference between a slutty lifestyle and a slutty look, but the difference YOU don't seem to get is that I don't project those judgments on kids, whereas you want to brand the scarlet letter on the Obama girls.
Anyway, I'm not sure why you're do defensive here...I said you were the expert. Did you think I was being disingenuous?

Go around to any school and most of the girls are dressed like sluts, in any age group.

The worst part of this health care thing is that it is left in the hands of congress to come up with. What the fuck do they know about health care? Why would Obama do this? Why not just present his plan? This is a debacle in the making.

That's the genius of co-equal branches, for ya.
But the short answer is that he wants Congress to create it because, last time, the Clintons came up with a plan, presented it with too little Congressional input, and that was one of the reasons it died. Congress may not have the best ideas, but he's learned that lesson from recent history. And, if we get something, it'll be easier to make changes and improve than it would be for this to fail and have to try again in another ten years.

Really? What is that analogy? And you almost contradicted yourself with that "of course it doesn't mean.." part. Come on... Surely if someone really smart, let's say me for example does one thing that he hasn't thought through, and it ends up being a bad choise, I'm not going to be an idiot one moment and a genius the next. It's still me. The same guy. Jules from Pulp Fiction has a few well chosen words that can describe how much I think it's the same ballpark. I really don't think it's hard to explain in words. I don't know. Maybe it's because English isn't my first language that I don't see how you can say the two things are the same.
