Just got back from DC
last year at the Cops Ceremony, George Bush not only appeared, but shook the hand of all the survivors. So I was very fucking excited going to Washington
well, it seems Obama would rather meet the Philadelphia Phillies than come to a Memorial for fallen police officers.
I will not vote for Obama in 2012
Boo fuckin' hoo.
EDIT: Let me add, since "boo fuckin' hoo" doesn't quite capture everything...it took Bush six years to accept an invitation to speak to the NAACP. By your "logic", Bush felt his five excuses (one per year) were all more important than the 60 million non-white Americans. Then again, it's a stretch to apply the word "logic" to what you said.
yeah, meeting the NAACP and Police officers killed protecting u is exactly the same thing.......................
possibly the most retarded thing I've read on here.
What a fucking joke. You've clearly just got a grudge.
And, FYI, the NAACP has been fighting for civil rights and against discrimination in this country for 100 years. So, yeah, it's important, whether you think so or not.
Where was the NAACP fighting for Ms. California a few weeks back? Oh, they only help if you are liberal I guess.... They don't want to protect free speeach of women with "traditional" views.
Umm...do you know what NAACP stands for? It's primarily a civil rights org, not a civil liberties org, first and foremost, and its main function is to promote the equality of people of color.
Talk about a strawman.

D, you voted for his ass, so I don't want to hear it. I knew how he was before he got elected. I agree and I love your passion, but for a couple months you bought all his shit hook line and sinker. Only myself, Bluto, and Sandman seemed to challenge Obama down to the wire. I think he cabinet sux and his majority leaders in the house and senate are beyond pathetic.
You agree that Obama doesn't like cops?
Christ.
Sorry didn't say that.... I don't have a dog in that fight. He may not have even had control over that decision, somebody else maybe did his planning for him. It sux for D, but I don't know enough about it. Stuff like that won't make me change my mind on him as Pres, but him attending events for the Cops might make me like him more personally. Barack already seems like a good guy.... We don't see the real Obama due to the confines leaders of his own party put him in. Its sad.
You said "I agree", so I took a crazy leap and assumed that that meant you agreed with D. My bad?
Quote from: Sam Beckett on May 18, 2009, 01:44:14 AM
Freedom,
Are you out of your god damn mind? Comparing a ceremony for men who died protecting others verus an organization that caters to African Americans? Was there a precedent for the President to attend the NAACP event like there was for the military ball he bailed on? And let's be honest, would W have gotten a warm welcome at the NAACP event? I don't see Obama running to an NRA dinner and the NRA has been defending freedoms much longer than the NAACP and has more members too. You're a professor for god sakes man. How about a little objectivity. It's okay to say Obama has his priorities wrong. He skipped a ceremony for murdered policemen to meet the Phillies. If you fail to see anything wrong with this, then maybe you need to sit down and rethink your moral code.
Every President since Hoover spoke to the NAACP when invited...until Bush. He eventually spoke in his sixth year, after being invited in each prior year. So, yes, there was precedent.
Obama just gave a speech at a university where he was protested for his views on abortion, so your argument that he's unwilling to appear where he isn't universally loved doesn't hold water.
As for objectivity...this thread, D's criticism, and most of the arguments against Obama are about as subjective as you can get.

Disappointing...
Geithner nixes executive-pay caps
Published: May 18, 2009 - 3:37 pm
(AP) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says the U.S. government should not impose caps on executive pay in the financial sector. However, he said Monday that the government can set compensation standards to curb excessive risk-taking by financial institutions.
Such standards could combine with compensation disclosure requirements and giving shareholders the ability to vote on salary packages.
Mr. Geithner made his comments during an interview at a luncheon.
Wall Street bonuses and retention packages have provoked anger among the public and in Congress. Lawmakers have moved to limit pay for top employees at financial institutions that have received federal government assistance. The standards envisioned by Mr. Geithner would apply to all financial institutions.

What makes me laugh is the fact, when I bring up something Obama did, someone to defend Obama has to bring up Bush
Who gives a fuck about Bush and the NAACP? What does that have to do with this?
I think it has been established that Bush was probably the worst president ever.
My point bringing up Bush was, the fact that no matter how horrible of a President he was, he still did this
Obama also slashed federal funding to Cops programs which helps support the famlies of fallen heroes.
As I said, If Obama had important stuff going on, I could give him a pass. the fact he went years without visiting soldiers in Iraq and the fact he doesn't seem to care much about Police officers, That makes me wonder about the guy a little.
When you would rather meet a pro sports team than fallen police officers, how can anyone not say "That is disappointing, or just something
I don't get how someone can defend that? Seriously

To point out that this stuff happens all the time? Shit, can there be anything LESS important than meeting the Phillies? Yes how many sports teams have visited the White House over the years? It's a waste of time. ANYTHING would be more important. Yet they all do it, and for whatever reason, this one's got your panties in a twist. How many first pitches has a President thrown out? Amusingly enough, when Obama opted to NOT throw out a first pitch this year, he GOT SHIT FOR IT! WHAT A FUCKING JOKE!

I'm sorry, but I wasn't aware that you were privy to the secrets of Obama's mind. How do you know what he'd "rather" do? Are you his fucking secretary? I suppose not, since in your world the President wakes up every day, decides what he wants to do, and does it. He has no claims on his time. He makes his own schedule. Shit. I didn't know all that. I guess since he hasn't met with me, he hates white people, men, people from Indiana, people who went to public school, and people in education. I've seen the light!!!!

Freedom, that is simply retarded
U are really a professor and u can't see the difference in meeting YOU and families of Police Officers killed in the line of duty?
what part of Police Officers dying in the line of duty and that being important don't u get?
Is there nothing the guy can do to make you question him?
I feel sorry for people like you who are so stuck in their way of thinking, they can't see anything else.
Every Year, on May 15th is Cops Day.
So, it isn't something that just comes up out of nowhere.
You think meeting the Phillies is more important than honoring heroes who died for their country protecting the streets?
The Ceremony lasted 1 hour and was on the capitol lawn.... So let's be real. A guy has time to meet a baseball team,b ut can't be bothered with this. that is bullshit and a disgrace in my opinion
If he were out of the country, out of state or doing something very important for the country, sure, i give him a pass.
He met the Phillies! now the Steelers!
That is a joke.
You are damn right I am emotional about this cause my Dad was one of the fallen heroes who evidently is nowhere as important as a stupid team that plays a child's game.

I am 1000% with D on this. There are things that you skip for scheduling confilicts, and there are things you change other plans for because of their importance.
You skip your date with the Phillies (which never should have been scheduled for this day) to honor fallen heros. If this was 5-15-02 you can be sure that if Obama was in office we would have shown up to this event because 9-11 would still be in every ones minds and would have been fashionable... you would have had to beat politicians away with a stick.
Sadly enough, when it comes down to it... Shaking Ryan Howards hand gets you more pub than shaking the hand of a police widow or fatherless son.

I was mocking your argument. Clearly you didn't get it. No, I don't think they're equivalent, and I can't believe that I actually have to explain that.

I have problems with some of his more recent stances on detainees.
I have a problem with his idea of increasing defense spending.
I disagree with his stance on the death penalty.
I think his healthcare plan isn't nearly strong enough.
I think parts of the bailout, including the actions discussed in the article George Steele just posted, have been botched.
I think his Afghan policy has flaws.
I think he hasn't done enough to change the banking/Wall Street dominance of our economy.
And that's just off the top of my head. But here's the kicker. You're all so fucking dishonest that when, inevitably, I defend something about the President tomorrow, the day after, or next week, you'll immediately begin your dumbfuck catcalls about kool-aid or my inability to think for myself. So shove it! I have my disagreements. And they don't come from my being pissy because I wanted to see the President and didn't get to.

I'm fairly certain I said it's the most unimportant thing any President could do. Stop putting your words in my mouth. Try hooked on phonics, if you're having trouble reading.

The Ceremony may have lasted an hour. Police Week, however, lasted from the 10th through the 16th. During that period, the President met with the National Association of Police Organizations and some of their award winners. So, despite your insistence that the doesn't care about police officers, there's evidence from literally three days prior that suggests otherwise. He didn't attend the event you wanted him to; he was involved in another event. Them's the breaks.

Everything Freedom told you D is the damn truth...get over yourself man. I respect you a lot, but in this case you are being so ruled by your emotions, you're giving sober reasoning the cold shoulder.
btw, your insistence on bashing folks left of center here, (saying they are drinking Obama Kool-Aid) is bullshit D. Flat out bullshit. Every fucking supporter of the president here has issues with him. Nobody here has said he is perfect. Nobody here has said he is the messiah. In fact, the only people who peddle that shit are the right-wingers who want to tear him down.
All of us here have pointed out where we disagree with the President...emotion is not letting you remember that. It doesn't fit with your heart's villification of the president.

The

did not step in and censor Imus or Miss California.
That
is free speech.
That doesn't mean they don't live with the consequences of their words/actions in society or from their employers.
The people whose civil rights are being violated in this case are the gay people.

I think it has been established that Bush was probably the worst president ever.
Even more worse than Roosevelt, who reported in his diary, that he knew that the japs were gonna destroy Pearl Harbor? I think it is already established that the ignorance in this board is beyond ridiculous. Might as well not chat about politics right now.

Big deal. So he didn't go and do a meet and greet with some cops. Just about anyone can be a cop. To be a Phillie, on the other hand, is a rare thing in this world.

Here are some things I'd enjoy seeing in this thread over the coming days:
1.) I'd like to see an explanation of how the swine flu, which has caused 17 deaths (compared to the normal flu, which kills tens of thousands each year), fits into earlier complaints that the Obama Admin and, particularly, Napolitano are being too "passive" in their dealing with this illness. I haven't heard anything in a while, and the cognitive dissonance is just killing me!
2.) While we're on the topic of cognitive dissonance, I wouldn't mind seeing the thoughts of those who slammed the idea of right wing terror/violence comment on the recent murder of an abortion doctor (w/ mad props to Jim Bob for pointing out this obvious fact).
