Umm...do you know what NAACP stands for?  It's primarily a civil rights org, not a civil liberties org, first and foremost, and its main function is to promote the equality of people of color.

Are you out of your god damn mind?  Comparing a ceremony for men who died protecting others verus an organization that caters to African Americans?  Was there a precedent for the President to attend the NAACP event like there was for the military ball he bailed on?  And let's be honest, would W have gotten a warm welcome at the NAACP event?  I don't see Obama running to an NRA dinner and the NRA has been defending freedoms much longer than the NAACP and has more members too.  You're a professor for god sakes man.  How about a little objectivity.  It's okay to say Obama has his priorities wrong.  He skipped a ceremony for murdered policemen to meet the Phillies.  If you fail to see anything wrong with this, then maybe you need to sit down and rethink your moral code.

Every President since Hoover spoke to the NAACP when invited...until Bush.  He eventually spoke in his sixth year, after being invited in each prior year.  So, yes, there was precedent. 

Obama just gave a speech at a university where he was protested for his views on abortion, so your argument that he's unwilling to appear where he isn't universally loved doesn't hold water.

As for objectivity...this thread, D's criticism, and most of the arguments against Obama are about as subjective as you can get.

You skip your date with the Phillies (which never should have been scheduled for this day) to honor fallen heros. I have a problem with his idea of increasing defense spending. 

I disagree with his stance on the death penalty. 

I think his healthcare plan isn't nearly strong enough. 

I think parts of the bailout, including the actions discussed in the article George Steele just posted, have been botched.

I think his Afghan policy has flaws.

I think he hasn't done enough to change the banking/Wall Street dominance of our economy.

The Ceremony may have lasted an hour.  Police Week, however, lasted from the 10th through the 16th.  During that period, the President met with the National Association of Police Organizations and some of their award winners.  So, despite your insistence that the doesn't care about police officers, there's evidence from literally three days prior that suggests otherwise.  He didn't attend the event you wanted him to; he was involved in another event.  Them's the breaks.

Here are some things I'd enjoy seeing in this thread over the coming days:

1.) I'd like to see an explanation of how the swine flu, which has caused 17 deaths (compared to the normal flu, which kills tens of thousands each year), fits into earlier complaints that the Obama Admin and, particularly, Napolitano are being too "passive" in their dealing with this illness.  I  haven't heard anything in a while, and the cognitive dissonance is just killing me!

2.) While we're on the topic of cognitive dissonance, I wouldn't mind seeing the thoughts of those who slammed the idea of right wing terror/violence comment on the recent murder of an abortion doctor (w/ mad props to Jim Bob for pointing out this obvious fact).
