I hate the way Obama brushed off the marijuana question like it was a joke.    He was mocking the very people who raised him the money to get elected.  Undecided

Jim Bob, unfortunately we aren't quite at the point we can address the drug policy realistically.  Obama has to treat the marijuana issue the same way as gay marriage.  Baby steps.  Support medicinal marijuana and civil unions right now.  If the economy can get revving again, and some progress is made on the Afghan/Iraq front...and more old stick in the muds pass away...then we're talkin' time to advance what's considered a "progressive agenda."  Just sayin'.

yea but like you said

On a serious note, yes, marijuana should be legalized and taxed.  2 birds with 1 stone.  Increased government revenue and decreased violence as a result of drug/gang violence.  peace

This isn't the answer to getting the economy revived again, but it could be part of a solution.   Obama has the power to bring us to that point where we can address this realistically, but instead he brushes it off.

Jim Bob is correct and Bill Maher is fucking livid about this too and called out Obama.  This was the #1 online question and he acted like all that asked it were fucking retards.  Suprised he didn't call us Special Olympic athletes.

Does B.O. know who the President of France is?

by Toby Harnden

It's long been the case that the easiest way for an American and a Brit - whatever their respective political persusasions - to bond is to chuckle over something rude about the French.

Jokes about garlic, frogs' legs, surrender, duplicity, take your pick - it's safe ground. If Barack Obama had gone on Leno and made a barbed quip about our Gallic friends instead of the Special Olympics he'd have been home free.

So perhaps the new president is being devilishly clever by, as Le Figaro reports, writing to Jacques Chirac, former French president, that: "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world."

These kind of seem like the kind of words most suitable for a sitting head of state, not a former one. The use of the word "peace" is apparently being interpreted by the French newspaper as a tacit recognition of Chirac's strong stance against the Iraq invasion.

Some have interpreted the move as a one-fingered gesture to Nicolas Sarkozy, the current president of France. "So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president," blogs Europumas.

"I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac!"

What better way to make up with Gordon Brown after the DVDs fiasco than to insult France's president?

Or perhaps it could have been payback for Sarkozy's supposed opinion that Obama's stance on Iran was "utterly immature".

But wait. The now online-only Christian Science Monitor reports that Obama was simply replying to a letter from Chirac "who was writing him as the head of his foundation - the Jacques Chirac Foundation for sustainable development and cultural dialogue".

Perhaps the hair-trigger settings of the Obama gaffe detectors are leading to a few shots going wide of the mark.

Drew, that's so fucking misleading.  Um, yeah, the President knows who the leader of France is.  Nowhere in that quote does it state President Obama calling Chirac the current leader of France.  Typical bullshit anti-Obama article Drew.

Jim Bob and S Guns, like I said, we are all in agreement when it comes to drug policy.  What I'm trying to get at is that the country may not be ready for it.

Well he's been fucking up a lot here lately whether it's been his teleprompter problems, making ignorant jokes on late night television, or making a fool of himself as he tries to laugh his way out of answering a question. Didn't he even say he had visited all 49 states in this country? Everything is a joke to this asshole but I guess this racist jerk and all his racist buddies he surrounds himself with are having a grand old time. Did the guy every fill the position at the Treasury Department or did they finally have to go with a job fair to fill the position? So no, it wouldn't be surprising at all if this guy didn't know who the President of France was. How many states do we having in this country again?

Yes Drew, let the ignorance roll right on.  You only make yourself look silly.  Wink
It must really burn you up to realize this man's jock strap is smarter than you.
So now it's, "if this guy didn't know who the president of France was..." yeah, thought so.

You are wrong, they proposed higher credits for buying a home, they proposed cutting corporate taxes to promote new hires, etc.  What about the tax bills out there waiting to be voted on?  Charitable contributions possibly being wiped out.  No tax credit for Interest paid on your Mortgage....  I mean there are ways they are going to tax us out of this.  Of course none of that has been voted on yet, but there are bills out there with the Mortgage Interest and the Charitable Contributions clause stated in them.  Just imagine the uproar if those are passed.

Does not having an alternative plan make yours correct by default anyway?  I think not and the last people we need fixing our economy are not people that have never really had a real job.

Not at all, but I'd like to actually hear an alternative plan rather than a group of cretins yell "socialism" for another four years.

Newt was already claiming Obama hasn't turned us around yet. I mean, are the GOP serious? Who is really buying this kind of crap anymore? Looks like right now, not many. There is a reason Obama's ratings are so high. America is realizing that the GOP have essentially been repeating stupid shit like "Socialism" ad nauseum and not really offering any solutions of their own.

The hypocrisy of the right in regards spending is even more atrocious. News flash, it was eight years of "conservative" hot potato economics that brought America to its knees in the first place. Just like their ponzi scheme economy the GOP has collapsed and all they can do is continue to lie and place blame elsewhere.

GM chairman forced out by Obama

The chief executive of struggling US car company General Motors has been ordered to step down by President Barack Obama.

Rick Wagoner will leave immediately, a government official confirmed.

Mr Obama is preparing to outline terms for offering more help to GM and fellow car giant Chrysler.

The economy has gone down the drain and some of you want to focus on that?

Yes.

Lets talk economy. He appointed a person who's major responsibility is the protection of the dollar, and in a world televised press conference he created doubt in the strength of the dollar by lending credence to a world currency... which in turn dropped the stock market (which had been in a minor upturn) into a 300 point tailspin.

I understand that the last 8 years weren't the greatest 8 in the history of the US, but the current administration has made some colosal blunders in the first 90 days. just because he hasn't packed 8 years of mistakes into his first 90 days doesn't mean that we are on the right course.

A significant amount of his cabinet appointees were tax evaders (funny considering he plans on raising taxes in that bracket... suppose it helps when you don't plan on paying them). He insulted the British Prime Minister and Citizens by handing a political gift back over because of a personal gripe (then when meeting him for the first time stupidly game him a gift of DVD's that can;t be played in England)... to follow that up he gave the Queen of England and iPod (are you fucking kidding me... an iPod??). In his continuing goal to make government as large as possible the government is in the process of handling auto warranties??? So at this point I don't have to work, I can get free insurance, they'll pay my mortgage and fix my car? but based on his current plan if I'm young enough I will have mandatory volunteerism (which kind of kills the volunteer part).

I could go on.. but I suppose that would be mindless pilling on (which is completely different than moveon.org's MO the past 6 years).

Jarmo, what he did to GM really didn't impress me, especially when he didn't act that way towards the financials, what a double standard.  Obama does a lot of what you say Slash does actually.  He blames everyone else.  He runs from answers.  He uses the media to shine a positive light and make Bush look bad.  He is half black.  He talks a lot of shit.  He did cocain back in the day and smokes.  I am just messing Jarmo.  Seriously, Obama has made more errors than positives so far, but its okay, he is still learning.
