Apparently Citi has a profit...it'll be interesting to see if this is the start of a trend or a flash in the pan.
Some smaller banks have already turned around thanks to government help. Larger institutions that are much more complex in nature (ie global) would obviously take more time to nurse back to health. I am optimistic about Citi.
Smaller banks maybe made better decisions regardless of the government.
If they were in need of assistance to pull them through I'd guess their decisions weren't much better to begin with. You're missing the point anyway.
I suppose we could let 'em all fail, but I'd guarantee you wouldn't like that outcome either. You think you're pissed now...

If Geitner says it, it must be true. I really don't agree or disagree, but Small Banks weren't nearly in as bad of shape as the larger ones.

It looks like I can only go to Anderson Cooper and Chris Matthews for object left wing analysis, Olbermann and Maddow are in the can with Obama and prefer to talk about Condi Rice, Rove, Cheney, and Bush instead of taking on current topics like Matthews, Anderson Cooper, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Glen Beck, Scarborough, etc. do. All Olbermann does is make a special comment about how we need to say "enough"....

Do they question Obama or Geitner like Anderson and Matthews do, or do they just attack every republican and dem that disagrees. Maddow atleast will have good interviews. Olbermann has jumped the shark.
SLC, what are your thoughts on Geitner and this bill that was forced through?

Matthews
Cooper
Larry King
Joe Scarborough
Tucker Carlson
O'Reilly
Hannity
Greta
The above all ask good questions and don't have a love fest over Obama.
The Below people can't even acknowledge Geitner may be in trouble let alone question ANY decision Obama has made.
Maddow
Olbermann
James Carville
The top list has several Obama supporters, but you can question even if you support.

I disagree about Maddow not questioning ANY decision. As an unabashed liberal, she's certainly a fervent supporter, but I've seen her question things on many occasions (usually because he moderates a position...like an Iraq withdrawal slower than the left would like).
Does Tucker Carlson have a show somewhere? His MSNBC forum tanked a year or so ago.

Not sure, but he was on Larry King's panel. I will tell you this, King, Cooper, and Matthews, all big Obama guys, are WORRIED about his decisions lately. They flat out disagree on several items. And as one lady said, Bush's ratings this far into his presidencey were higher than Barack's are now and that was after he lost the popular vote. That basically says as Americans we usually always support our President till he screws up. I thought that was interesting.
Maddow is pissed off at Moderate Dems for voting like republicans and for wanting to keep a filabuster for big ticket items like the Health Care Policy. Warren Buffet, an Obama mentor, said Barack needs to focus on a couple key items at a time because America doesn't like such huge swift change all at one time. I tend to agree with these people that want to get it right instead of this whole, "we must do something now or it will all collapse" bs. I think Barack can multi task just fine, but I guess Buffett wants him to prioritize some more. I mean that vote on the taxes, only discussed on the floor for 1 hour? WTF?!?!?! The stimulus bill, not enough time to even read it?
The sky isn't falling? Why is he in such a hurry? What if they over look something like the deficit that they just now discovered, or the AIG loop hole to give bonuses?
And where is Joe Biden in all this? I thought he was supposed to reign Obama in and keep him in check when he disagreed. Looks like he lost that struggle already. I don't buy that Biden is all in on this, nor Hillary Clinton. Maybe that is why Hillary has been out of the country, so she can't start shit with Obama or Pelosi, cause this all doesn't seem like stuff that Biden or Hillary would be all about. Hillary is very calculated and thinks out everything. I give her that.

Sour grapes, eh?
I figured Smoking Guns would have been too entranced by Shawn Johnson's trotting around on Dancing With the Stars to notice any politics. On that note S Guns, I just don't get it. She could have been a body-double for Sean Astin in "Rudy." You can have Shawn, I'll take Stacy Keebler.
btw, can we have the crazy christian conservatives sign away their rights to be treated by any treatments or cures that are developed as a result of federally funded embryonic stem cell research? Those fucking hypocrites will be 1st in line when it's time.

Holy Shit, Shawny is on Dancing with the stars?
? I must see this. I looooove Stacy Keebler and would lick ANYTHING on her body. Truly amazing.
A4P, give me your thoughts on this AIG mess. I see right through all this grandstanding. They are all in bed with each other. These dirty fucks. You can't trust our Government at all. Dems, Reps, to hell with them all! This Geitner guy MUST go, he is as Axl would call, a Cancer.

See that? Watching chick tv shows can pay off sometimes, eh?
Yeah, I never understood the Shawn Johnson thing. Nastia was hotter in my opinion, but whatever!
Timmy Geithner...he's not looking so good lately. He's definitely on shaky ground. If an economic recovery doesn't appear in the next 6-12 months, we may see Timmy let go. Until then though, I would not fire the guy. That's just me.
He just has to realize, everything is going to be viewed under a microscope and the smallest of mistakes will be magnified in Washington. That's just the nature of the beast.

Special Olympian challenges president
Obama pummeled over comment: Top bowler says he can beat him on the lanes, too.
By Corey Williams
Associated Press
Saturday, March 21, 2009
Ann Arbor, Mich. ?- One of the top bowlers for the Special Olympics looks forward to meeting President Barack Obama in an alley.
?He bowled a 129. I bowl a 300. I could beat that score easily,? Michigan?s Kolan McConiughey said Friday.
His challenge to Obama followed the president?s offhand remark on Jay Leno?s ?Tonight Show? Thursday comparing his famously inept bowling to ?the Special Olympics or something.?
Recognizing his blunder, Obama apologized to the chairman of the Special Olympics before the show aired. But his comment spurred an outcry.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin criticized Obama for the gaffe, calling it ?degrading,? especially since it was ?coming from the most powerful position in the world,? according to McClatchy Newspapers. Palin, whose son, Trig, was born with Down syndrome last year, appeared in a video promoting this year?s winter Special Olympics games in Boise, Idaho.
?These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will,? Palin said. ?By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them. I hope President Obama?s comments do not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community.?
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday the president believes the Special Olympics are ?a triumph of the human spirit.? Gibbs added that Obama ?understands that they deserve a lot better than the thoughtless joke that he made last night.?
Obama had ?apologized in a way that was very moving,? Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver said on ABC?s ?Good Morning America.?
?I think it?s important to see that words hurt, and words do matter,? Shriver said.
?And these words that in some respect can be seen as humiliating or a put-down to people with special needs do cause pain, and they do result in stereotypes.?
Shriver is the son of Eunice Kennedy-Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics in 1968. The global nonprofit organization serves 200 million individuals with intellectual disabilities.
His sister, Maria Shriver, wife of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a longtime Obama supporter, said that laughing at the president?s comments ?hurts millions of people throughout the world.?
?People with special needs are great athletes and productive citizens,? Maria Shriver said.
Timothy Shriver said McConiughey, the bowler, might just get a chance to show off his skill at the White House because Obama wants to have some Special Olympic athletes visit.
McConiughey, 35, who is mentally disabled, lives with his foster mother and has held the same job at a grocery store for 16 years. He greets customers, sweeps floors and maintains the store?s break room.
He has been bowling since he was about 8 and has bowled five perfect games since 2005.
He offered a little sporting advice for the president.
?I?d tell him to get a new bowling ball, new shoes and bring him down to the lane,? said McConiughey, who speaks with a serious stutter. ?Keep his body straight, his arm straight and keep his steps straight. He has to practice every single day.?

Looks like the GOP can't stand the thought of Obama actually being like the rest of us everyday Americans. Rather than talk to us like a bunch of ten year olds a la Bush style, he talks to the country like a group of adults. What an amazing concept. Rather than talk down to us with some sort of horseshit used car salesman lingo, he explains current events articulately in everyday terminology that the average guy can understand.
Now we have an instance where the PC police (The uptight GOP shitheads) have swooped down to create a fuss over a crass gaffe most of us have said on a forum or around a group of friends. Yea wow, a joke about the special Olympics. Boo hoo hoo, more manufactured outrage that nobody cares about because they are losing their home, their job, disgusted over their 401k, or wondering how they are going to feed their kids. This is why the GOP have been voted out since 06 and the Dems put into power. While you are at it, try to actually come up with a solution. Screaming "Socialism" didn't work before or during the election and it sure ain't working now.

You are wrong, most everyday Americans have a much better NCAA bracket than Obama. He picked a lot of losers, much like his Cabinet.

I also thought his bracket was lame. Showed very little love to the underdog...what kind of Democrat is he?!?!
But you're too hard on the cabinet...seems like this is just anti-Geithnerism boiling over, or do you have criticisms that go beyond Timmay?

Screaming "Socialism" didn't work before or during the election and it sure ain't working now.
giveit time, you'll be jumping off the omama bandwagon shortly; he has been in office 100 days yet and his own part is questioning him;
I think you have mistaken how democracy is supposed to work. The Bush era GOP walked lockstep never questioning the devastatingly stupid errors along the journey. A party that questions each others actions and what is best for the country does not mean it is a party divided, but rather one that is intelligent enough to question what is best for all.
