Nope...

I will say that people who are landscapers and pool cleaners work hard for their money and I have a lot more respect for them over a guy who sits at home, puts no effort into looking for a job because he'd rather collect a welfare check...

Jarmo, those are "good things" and we need them, but put them in the appropriate Bill is all some are saying.   This bill is for the economy.

I'm not American, so some might think that I should keep my mouth shut.... But I'll say it anyway.  Tongue

Maybe the money generates research in those areas. Research creates jobs for specialists, institutions etc. Maybe even in education because you need more qualified people to do the research...

Then if you get some results as let's say this new cool long lasting battery, you could manufacture it in USA. Which creates more jobs.

Or you could just bomb the shit out of the Middle East. That seemed to help the economy...  Wink

Q:  If a man has no job and, thus, no income, and you cut his income taxes, how much does he save so that he has more to spend?

A: ZE-FUCKING-RO

A small business who receives a tax cut can use the savings to hire  people to increase his production, thus giving this man a job.

And I'm all for that as part of a larger program, but that will take a long time to effectively do much for the economy.  Unfortunately, right now, small businesses that get tax cuts will probably have to use that boost to stay in the black, rather than hiring.  That's not true across the board, of course, but small businesses often operate on such razor thin margins that it's no surprise when a downturn like this makes them quickly go under.  So, yes, I'm all for helping small businesses survive.  They're truly the lifeblood of a community and, in my opinion, a good deal of the charm and character that we're losing quickly in this country.  But simply giving them tax cuts won't do it to turn this around.  We need jobs immediately, because we're losing them every day, and since private industry will take a fair amount of time to recover on its own, that means we need to supplement any private recovery with jobs that are ready to go (i.e. many of the "shovel ready" projects, etc.).

This is already a  large and scary enough percentage of the "stimulus" bill in my opinion.

Wow, you really think these are bad things? Again, what's the percentage?

And where is that list from?

So what do you bellyaching republicans want? More tax cuts and borrow even more money from China to cover the spread? Are you guys just a one trick pony or what? We've done it your way for the last eight years and it's had disastrous results.

Yes, I do. Simply because it's a waste of money. They really want to spend $70 million to try to get people to quit smoking? Wow!

My sources for the list:

I feel it's a bit excessive, especially pertaining to environmental and to a large part, "global warming."

Maybe it's all a myth?

It looks to be a huge scam more and more every day.

Global Warming Scam

And for health, $70 million is too much money to try and help people quit smoking. That's absolutely insane.

Would you say it's a waste if it helps save some lives?

For the majority, more money will be wasted than lives saved.

I particularly liked the part where a cold winter means there's no global warming.  hihi

But, even if global warming were a myth, getting off fossil fuels is still good for national security reasons and environmental reasons OTHER than global warming.

Tax cuts and not spending record amounts of money is a good plan to improve the economy. Think we have a record deficit now? Just wait.....ever hear of hyperinflation?  One thing Bush & Obama have in common is they spend money like drunken sailors.

I am not completely against spending money ( ie. a stimulus package) but the last one and this one has not been even close to being completely thought thru by congress. Bush told us the ecomomy would collapse if we did not pass the last bill. Now Obama is saying this one has to be rushed since we are in such bad shape. I do agree things are getting a bit dire , but when you spend this amount of money that will take decades to pay back, perhaps we should put some more thought into it...spend where we will see a significant and measurable effect on the economy within the next year, not more pork to help a senator or congressman's career and wallet.

Of course, it goes without saying that the number one thing leading to national debt in this country is our massive Cold War style military.

This is hilarious^. But I guess I'm not disappointed, since you were making these claims about Obama before he was even elected. Say it until it's true huh? What a group of losers.

Getting off fossil fuels is all well and good, but not if it's just used as an excuse to pocket some extra tax dollars and introduce even more tyranny to our lives.

I'm not under the impression that any single year's weather, warm or cold, means a damn thing and I don't have to be gullible to see the haze when flying into LAX.

The only tyranny in my life is coming from the economic system...not Al Gore et al.

But you are under the impression that what is propagated by the intellectual elite means something, hence the mocking comment in the first place, even though it now is starting to become apparent that the global warming hysteria is based a lot more on politics than fact.

The Al Gore card? That's funny. Who do you think funds campaigns like Al Gore's if not the economic system? You talk like he and the likes of him are some sort of independents.

Wasn't aware that Al Gore got his own "card".

Now is the point where I accuse you of playing the "card" card, I believe.

No clue what this means.  Huh

Your "exit". Usually accompanied by standing ovations and thunderous applause.

Just wondering if that was the intent of that less than substantive counter argument.
