more AIDS "education"

Would it be different if it were for cancer "research" ? Would that make you feel more comfortable ? Were you bitching about Bush's AIDS programs for Africa by chance?
i know this is off topic a bit but did anyone see on the news a few months ago bout the Germans curing someone from AIDS some crazy blood thing i cant remember

If I remember correctly it was a bone marrow transplant?

It's good to see that there was a non-partisan vote yesterday on that pork-barreled "stimulus' bill.

Describe the "pork" and the percentage of the bill it made up.

AIDs is not curable. It can go into remission, but it cannot be cured.

it is hard to figure out what the Republicans are up by opposing a bill that is needed to stimulate the economy and that is widely supported by the American people. I guess the Republicans  have yet to digest the presidential election result. But then again, this is the party that gave  us Iraq, so we should not expect  too much.

"widely supported?" are you being serious?

that's not how i would describe 42% support from the american public, but i guess we can agree to disagree.

one thing that is a fact is that support has been decreasing in recent days, probably due to people actually realizing what is included in the bill.

so the republicans are actually in line with what the american public thinks. it may be hard to figure out why republican politicians are against it since well who knows what any politician is really thinking. but as for the 39% of the public that oppose it, maybe it has to do with all the shit that's in the bill, the added govertment spending, the dramatic increase in money supply, or the tax credit which equate to welfare.

Q:  If a man has no job and, thus, no income, and you cut his income taxes, how much does he save so that he has more to spend?

A: ZE-FUCKING-RO

A small business who receives a tax cut can use the savings to hire  people to increase his production, thus giving this man a job.

Describe the "pork" and the percentage of the bill it made up.

For starters, that would include.....

- $400 million for global warming research
- $335 million for preventing sexually transmitted diseases
- $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts
- $335 million for education related to sexually transmitted diseases
- $1 billion for "Periodic Censuses and Programs"
- $650 million for Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Program
- $100 million for reducing the danger of lead paint in homes
- $2.4 billion for carbon-capture demonstration projects
- $70 million for programs to help people quit smoking
- $5 billion for public housing capital
- $1 billion in competitive housing grants
- $2.5 billion for energy efficiency upgrades in public housing
- $75 million for a super-computer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
- $50 million for "Watershed Rehabilitation"
- $1.1 billion for rural community facilities direct loans
- $2 billion for rural business and industry guaranteed loans
- $22.1 billion for rural housing insurance fund loans
- $100 million for "Scientific and Technical Research and Services" at the National Institute of Standards And Technology
- $300 million for a competitive construction grant program for research science buildings
- $1 billion for "Community Oriented Policing Services"
- $250 million for "accelerating the development of the tier 1 set of Earth science climate research missions recommended by the National Academies Decadal Survey."
- $1 billion for the Advanced Battery Loan Guarantee Program
- $4.1 billion to help communities deal with foreclosed homes
- $1 billion for expenses necessary for advanced battery manufacturing
- $2.4 billion to demonstrate "carbon capture and sequestration technologies"
- $1.7 billion for "critical deferred maintenance" in the National Park System
- $100 million for National Park Service Centennial Challenge programs
- $1 billion for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance
- $1.5 billion in homeless prevention activities
- $150 million to insure honey bee farmers

This is already a  large and scary enough percentage of the "stimulus" bill in my opinion.

Looks like some of that is environment and health related. Why exactly is that a bad thing?

Imagine if the same country that put the first man on the moon could also take the lead in "green" technology?

I feel it's a bit excessive, especially pertaining to environmental and to a large part, "global warming." And for health, $70 million is too much money to try and help people quit smoking. That's absolutely insane.

Would you say it's a waste if it helps save some lives?

Drew, I think everybody has a question about something on that list...but just for the record, without honeybees, you're not eating vegetables and/or you'll be paying out the asshole for imported fruits and veggies if they do go down...which they almost did a couple years to some mystery disease.

btw, you said this a "large" % of the stimulus bill?  I tallied it up in my head and it's around $50 billion...what's the % of the stim bill this represents again???  I don't think it's large.

Jarmo, those are "good things" and we need them, but put them in the appropriate Bill is all some are saying.   This bill is for the economy.

No need to get rude, I own a small business, and many of my clients are small businesses, so I have some practical knowledge to base my opinion on.

You COULD.

But you probably wouldn't.

I thought cleaning pools was a one man job.
