It is beyond hysterical how all of these cry baby, whining, bitter right wing a-holes are soooo mad/upset Obama is pres. It's almost as if they thought the last 8 years were good or something. I really don't get it.
It's not supposed to make sense.

LOL. That is some funny stuff.
It should be interesting to see if Obama can put together a spark to the economy. I know it may take awhile...

Obama made a pledge to bar lobbyists entering his administration from working on issues related to their former employers.
Then Obama waived HIS OWN ETHICS RULES regarding his deputy defense secretary nominee, former Raytheon lobbyist William Lynn.
priceless....

I'm going into this thing hoping Obama will have success tackling the big issues we face with his administration. He's still my president....
But I'm certainly gonna point shit out when I see it.

He's had some really good speeches so far.
To be fair, it is going to take a little time to see what his actions will yield. So far I'm a bit wary of this trillion dollar stimulus package and closing down Gitmo without a plan in place on how the detainees will be handled.

We should send them to Texas. Bush wanted them, let him keep them.

I know where you are coming from.....putting them on a military base closest to Dallas could be an option.
Point is, Obama should have figured out what we are going to do with them, THEN set a date to close Gitmo.

In all honesty, I don't know what the big deal is. People are acting like they're going to either break out or "infect" the general population. I think it's more likely they'll be kept separated in order that they won't be murdered behind bars. If wikipedia is even ballpark correct, there are 270 +/- prisoners at Gitmo. Some are due for release, some can be brought up on charges here, some can be brought up on charges in other countries...the only real problems are the ones that have been tortured and how that might affect a trial...especially since they tend to be the ones you can't risk being free. But for the most part, it's a non-issue, and some are raising hell about it more because they love Gitmo than because finding a place for 270 prisoners is that difficult.

I think some of you may be missing an important point...those held at the prison camp at Gitmo are BAD operators. These are not bank robbers, or drug dealers who can be 'rehabilitated' and returned to society. These are enemy combatants, and 'unlawful' ones at that. We did not have a facility to handle these people...and one had to be quickly built. I don't care who is in the White House, you cannot just tag & release these people...unless of course by 'tag' you mean plant a subdermal GPS tracking device, and by release you mean send 'home' so we can find their nest, and remove it. How many of these terrorists have been released to their home nations, and end up right back in Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan planting bombs at schoolhouses, police stations, and in markets?
What is really so bad about having this prison camp in Gitmo, besides the unfortunate troops that get stuck babysitting a bunch of overfed, nasty, spitting, shit-tossing murderers? Heck, the 60+ that were 'not so bad' that we released ended up right back on the battlefield, trying to kill innocent people, our troops, and themselves.
If I were Obama, I would put them all on a flight to Leavenworth to please those who care, but have the pilot bail out and send the plane into the gulf at 500mph, with 'mechanical' problems. Problem solved, everybody comes out a winner.

I'll give him a pass not knowing the fact though. People are busy and ask for many extentions. He was pretty busy working the markets and banks for awhile. If I'm wrong I'm wrong...He seened like a straight shooter to me when chosen??

I understand where your going and what your saying but how does any President regardless of who he is have an 80% approval rating in his 1st 2 days in office? It's ridiculous. And why do I have to get E-Mails about buying the clothing that Mrs. Obama was wearing during the 1st, 2 days?? I'm given the guy a chance but jeez...slurp slurp gargle and swallow...

Regarding Gitmo...No one knows what the status or how the detainees have been treated because it is not public information period. The ones that they did release and did not return to the battle field were most likely give just compensation for. Yet if you ask them they will not admit being compensated for obvious reasons. PR and retribution from their own people.

Fox News will show us the other side of things much like MSNBC did in the past with Bush. The Gitmo thing is all talk, nothing is going to happen there for quite some time.

"Unlawful enemy combatants" is the biggest joke I've ever heard. Who among us wouldn't act to defend our home countries if it were invaded? Shit, haven't you see
Red Dawn
?
And, of course, it goes without saying that the American revolution was made up of "unlawful combatants".
But regardless, "unlawful combatants" are still protected from inhumane treatment by Geneva and, of course, if they've committed a crime (presumably murder, assault, or something along those lines) then they should be brought up on charges. In all honesty, with the exception of those who were involved in planning 9/11, I don't know that any such individuals need to be dealt with in US courts (unless they're US citizens), since the crime was not committed in the US. They'd be better dealt with in Afghan, Iraqi, or Pakistani courts.
And, just to make it clear, this is also a violation of US law (the Constitution, in particular), which states the following:
Amendment 5: "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury...without due process of law"
Notice...it doesn't say "No citizen" or "No American" or any other phrasing that might suggest that this applies only to certain people. So, while the Geneva Conventions and other laws of war do not explicitly state that a trial must be afforded, our own Constitution does.

Well, it was done by executive order and, while those have the force of law, they can also be revoked. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get done within a year, but the intent is there which is the all important first step.
