The Inquisition: Scott Weiland

From STP to Velvet Revolver to his new solo album, Weiland has mastered the art of living on the edge.

By John Sellers 11.23.08

The binges, the arrests, the pimp hats -- Scott Weiland has lived dangerously for much of the past two decades. But the man can safely claim to be one of the most successful artists of the past 20 years, pushing 35 million records worldwide as frontman for grunge-era scene-stealers Stone Temple Pilots and supergroup Velvet Revolver. Following the latter's implosion in March, Weiland's back with STP, and on November 25, he releases his second solo album, "Happy" in Galoshes (New West). He's also not ruling out a Velvet Revolver reunion. "Slash and I always got on pretty well," he says. "So who knows?" Weiland, 41, spoke to us from his home in Southern California.

Considering Libertad flopped, I kind of doubt it.

Despite record sales, they would still be a draw on the road-other bands (see Van Halen, Motley crue) have had worse break ups

Thought Contraband was good but Libertad was better--better hooks, melodies, etc.

I like Weiland's writing and was hoping that the band would only grow more with a third album. Doubt he will be back.

Yea.

They should do the "harder" album Slash and Duff have been talking about. Contraband was going to that direction, but I feel they were holding back a little there too.

I think it was more Weiland and Sorum that had trouble

So basically Scott just left the rest of the band high and dry until he did what he had to do and is ready to come back.  Tongue

Matt Sorum & Scott Weiland despise each other.  I am not sure that everyone wants to deal with the drama again.  Not to mention, there are questions surrounding Scott's sobriety and that is a huge factor to Slash and Duff.

You're right, the main reason why Scott left was because of Matt.

About the reunion, no way rant, I want another kind of reunion, I want a GNR reunion and a DAMN STP new album!

I think he got along probably with Duff and Slash than the DeLeo brothers actually-he obviously does not care for Matt-I think the drug situation with him has done a lot of damage-he just seems worse in interviews and some of the live stuff he has done for his solo album has not sounded good

Slash and Duff's loyalty to Matt Sorum may have been this band's undoing.

Slash and Duff's loyalty to Matt Sorum may have been this band's undoing.

The bands undoing was the failure of Libertad and Scott moving forward with STP and the opportunity at a lucrative reunion tour.

I have no doubt all parties involved would have made it work if Libertad had similar commericial success to Contraband.

i'd love to see them working together again.

I do believe the music should be heavier and left to Slash, duff and Matt.

But as far as vocals, i don't believe they can properly replace Scott. the dude has charisma and amazing stage presence. they actually worked really well together. Contraband was great and libertad had great tunes as well, i love Just Sixteen! great song!

they kinda went on a bad path musically on their second record, even though i do like some tunes, but they lacked something... i dunno.

maybe some time apart is all they need.

they sure were fun to see live

Seems like STP doesn't want him back already. I'm pretty sure they're going be start recording a new album soon, anyway. So why is he talking about a Velvet Revolver reunion?
