TWAT. Best solo ever in GNR discography. Tremendous guitarist. So THANK YOU Bucket.
But THE MAN at this album is Bumblefoot.

I think There Was A Time is probably one of the greatest moments on the album altogether. Amazing work on that one. And I also love his playing in Sorry.

Any moment of Chinese Democracy where Buckethead appears is enough to make me stop what I'm doing and listen.
Everything he did on the record is perfection imo, and a joy to listen to. For me Axl, Buckethead and Brain are the stars of Chinese Democracy and I'm very thankful so much of his work remained intact.
Buckethead, I salute thee

For me he did a lot more than not disappoint. I was never a big fan of Buckethead during the 2001/2002 shows... I didn't think he fit in, and I was dreading hearing his parts because I was expecting not to like them. But the final result sounds incredible... really isn't what I'd expect from him. There's a lot more feeling in his playing than anything I'd heard him play before. He really stepped up, and helped make Chinese Democracy as great as it is. Take a bow, Buckethead. You fucking did it.
That said, I'm glad he's not around for the live show any more... Ron's just a lot more fun to watch.

Ron's just a lot more fun to watch.
He's not a lot more fun to listen to though.
Don't get me wrong - I love his solo stuff and own every CD he has put out, but when he tries and plays some of Buckets parts it sounds like a mess. His playing is far too random and shreddy and got lost when I saw him play songs like Better and IRS in 2006, and although I didn't get the chance to see the band perform TWAT live I have seen the video on youtube and the outro solo just wasn't the same.
I love Ron, but I prefer Bucket.
I also hope he appears on the next 2 albums.

Really? I've always preferred Ron's playing... mainly because he realises that shredding on most of the old songs is not right. Something that Buckethead didn't... sometimes it'd sound like he was playing a completely different song to everyone else. I'm not sure if Ron could have wrote the parts the are on the album, which are absolutely mind-blowing, but I'm looking forward to hearing him play them. I think they've only played There Was A Time twice so far... first time they played November Rain, he fucked up too. He'll get better with practise.
My theory is that when he's performing live, Buckethead is free to do whatever he wants, so he does whether it sounds right or not. Whereas in the studio, he had Axl to reign him in and tell him to do it again if it didn't sound right. Everyone knows that Axl always pushes to get the best out of his lead guitarists in the studio... he got some stuff out of Slash that Slash would've never come up with without someone forcing him outside of the box. Not taking anything away from Buckethead's writing here, of course... Axl had the vision, but it took all of these other people to be able to make it a reality, and Mr. Carroll is one of the key players who made it possible.

Great Thread. Thank you Buckethead for your amazing, heart-felt playing on the record. I just wish you were used more and that you were not taken off of some of the songs. You shouldnt mess with a Picasso!!!!

Geez - I hope some of you guys don't turn this into a Big B VS Ron thread.
Anyways - I don't like Bucket, his playing or that silly mask and bucket getup. But if I had to choose his best work from the Democracy album? Nah - I can't. Not just one. There are small things I'm hearing with headphones on that he is doing in the background on certain songs that are just as good as the killer, up in the mix solo's.
There Was A Time and Sorry - both of these songs feature instant classic solo's from Big B.
I think Democracy, and I may be alone with this, is just as much a Buckethead album as it is an Axl or 'Guns N Roses' album. Buckets signature is all over this body of music.
Big thanks go out to Axl for keeping these great moments of recorded music on the album and making them available to the public. It would have been a crime if TWAT and Sorry had never been released.

He did? Wow... I never heard about that.
Sure, Axl was pretty pissed off when he first left, but it seems as though he's long since gotten over that. In the past, people who Axl's been pissed off with have been known to disappear from recordings, after all.

You've obviously never read a Matt Sorum interview.
