yeah but the reason this album TOOK so long is because the old members left.
if Slash and CO hadn't left, this would've came out no later than 2000.
Do u not realize how much time etc it takes to find new band members and to reorganize everything?
it doesn't matter whether or not it outsells black ice
This album is gonna be one of those albums u look back on and know it is a classic. album sells don't make albums classic, music does and this album will have a great mix of both.

It would have to hurt and piss them off and also make them feel like shit cause they know they fucked up walking away.
I mean just listen to CD.
who the fuck wouldn't want to be a part of that?
D, why the fuck would they want to be part of that? You can't hear the bass (Duff has one of the best Bass tones ever) and there aren't any riff's. Not Duff and Slash's or even Izzy for that matter, type of music. The songs are good, but, its not the GNR style that Duff was associated with.
You can't mean that? You must be deaf not to hear the bass on CD. The bass is more in the front line of the sound picture on CD than on any other gn'r record.
I'm not dissing Duff here, I'm just saying that the bass on CD is fuckin' awesome.

Ha, the bass you year is Pittman's sub bass. Yes, there is bass, but you don't here the "bass guitar".

You can hear the bass clearly on Shackler's, The Blues, TWAT, Catcher and Riad
Anyway it would have been a different album, obviously, if Slash and Duff had been there. Songs like This I Love, Prostitute, TWAT, The Blues, IRS and Catcher would all be roughly the same as far as structure and direction. But you wouldn't even have songs like Better, Sorry, Riad, Scraped, and Shackler's, because those were all songs largely composed musically by people who never would've been in the band. It would've been a different album entirely, apart from the songs that Axl/Tobias/Dizzy wrote almost entirely

yeah but the reason this album TOOK so long is because the old members left.
I think you're missing the point. You're referring to Slash, Duff etc. when you say the "old members." But in reality, Axl changed band members over and over again, even since then. Come on, be realistic. Don't blame the old (original) members leaving as the reason why it took so long. Sure, it might've taken a little longer because they left, but certainly not 14 years.
CD will have a few memorable songs on it that will stand the test of time, but people are going waaaaaay overboard saying this is this generation's "Dark Side of the Moon."

Why is that going overboard?
Why is music released in the 60's or 70's always held as unbeatable?
I have the Wall and Dark Side and Personally, I think CD is better than both of them.
I hate that whole "it cant be better than this" argument.
If CD IS missing one thing, it is the big stand the test of time anthem
I mean I don't see any SCOM's or WTTJ's or PC's or just songs that will be radio staples for the next 100 years but this album isn't trying to have those types of songs.
CD is a personal trip through Axl's soul and he isn't trying to write radio friendly all time classic singles. none of the songs outside of "This I Love" are really songs broad enough which is why there won't be any break the charts single but as an album, track 1 through 14, Id put it up against ANY album.
definitely not a singles album though but that is partly why I love GNR.
overall song and album wise though, this CD is one of the greatest EVER made in my opinion.

You must seek psychological help now, if you really think that
CD
is better than
The Wall
or
Dark Side
, in fact, the name of those cds musn't even been pronounced in the same sentence as CD! This is no sarcasm, I'm serious. You just need the A-side of Dark Side to put shame on CD...
The thing is,
CD is a good album
, but is an Axl solo record, it is not GNR, and everybody who has a little sanity left knows that. And before you tell me: what are you doin' here? I'll say why, because I like Axl and I like the other guys, and I don't have to accept a lie to be here!

Sure as hell sounds like GNR to me. I'm looking at the album right now and guess what? It even say Guns N' Roses on the cover! So what the fuck are you talking about?

DUFF MCKAGAN On 'Chinese Democracy', VELVET REVOLVER's Singer Search - Nov. 24, 2008
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan was interviewed on Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM this past Friday, November 21. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On whether he's heard GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", and what his thoughts are on it:
"I just heard the single, 'Chinese Democracy', and I heard it at the gym when I was working out. So I didn't give it? It wasn't like I sat down in a quiet room and listened to it and analyzed it. And I probably wouldn't. I think Axl's [Rose]? obviously he's a really talented guy and I shared a big part of my life with him, but that was a long time ago for me.
"I've been asked more about this record, starting about 8-9 years ago, and I probably know the least about the record. It's not like I don't pay attention to what's going on in music. But I've got a really short attention span. You know, I'll hear something? I heard a song by this band SHINY TOY GUNS last week ? and these guys are killer; I love 'em ? and then that'll be gone in about a week.
"As far as Axl's new record, I'm sure there's probably amazing stuff on there, just know there. I've only got that one song and a listen at a gym to go off, so I can't really say that much about it. But how do I feel about it? Good for him that this record's finally coming out. Obviously, I wish him the best. I'm glad that people that have been waiting for this record have something to finally go get."
"The band that we formed twenty-something years ago is a completely different thing, and that's been over for? wow, 15 years. But I know Axl; he's a perfectionist, in a good way, musically. So I know he's not gonna let something come out that sucks ? at least in his mind. That counts for something with me. He and I, we shared a lot of good times, some crappy times, but when you look at the glass, it's definitely more than half full for me."
On VELVET REVOLVER's singer search:
"The only guy [out of all the people that have been rumored to be the new VR singer] we ever played with, and he was great, [was] Royston Langdon from SPACEHOG. And he was everything a singer should be ? a great singer, a great guy, and an odd character ? but there was just something that was missing, and it wasn't anything that he could have done differently. A ton of singers, through our management, have turned in their vocals on two songs of ours that aren't released. Once you get up over, say, 40 singers, it's hard to listen to listen and distinguish them all. If you sit down and listen to 10 guys, you're not giving the tenth guy the same listen you are the first guy. So we've gotta figure out how to go about this. I don't think any of the guys we've heard so far are 'THE' guy, and I don't think we can go out with a guy who's just good ? we have to have somebody that's amazing. Scott [Weiland, VELVET REVOLVER's former frontman] was an amazing singer. I don't think people would really buy it if we went out with somebody who's just, sort of, good."
VELVET REVOLVER recently parted ways with RCA Records (a Sony BMG label), the record company that released the group's first two full-length albums.
VELVET REVOLVER's 2004 debut, "Contraband", has sold 1.98 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its follow-up, "Libertad", has shifted a little over 300,000 units in the U.S. since its July 2007 release.

What are you talking about? The sub bass and real bass sound totally different. Who would confuse the two? You can distinctly hear them both.

Before I got into Gn'R, Pink Floyd was my favorite band. Now they're number 2 beyond Gn'R. I got into Gn'R because I hear the new music, and I hear that same flame that made me like them in the new music (not in the old).
Chinese Democracy is easily up there with those albums. I don't know if I can definitely say it's better, but it's easily up there.
You guys gotta get over it some time.. Axl just put out a great album and proved once in for all what he's capable of without the old members (just have Slash, Duff, and Sorum have proven what they're capable of without Axl with VR). You can bury your head in the sand and deny it forever, but the rest of us out here in the real world will be passing the beers around and enjoying the great music!

Guess I am coming full circle here
Duff and Slash have now been dropped by their label. Duff is playing in a side project and Chinese Democracy from their former band is about to be the biggest album of the decade.
I honestly feel this is an Appetite for the 21st century
different style of course, but equally as impressive.
VR are great, I love VR but lets be honest, Axl won.
I love CB and I like Libertad but Axl truly scored a first KO.
u guys know I am probably the biggest supporter of the old band and a reunion and all of that on the board. Jarmo has almost banned me a couple times I am sure cause of my diehard Slash and old band love but seriously, Axl really did prove he was the stronger as Slash said.
To see this phenomenon happening and knowing u could've been a part of it, has to be bittersweet.
I have to disagree and not because I tend to side with Slash. I know there will be a debate about who won between Axl and Slash, but I think the truth is that they both lost and so did we.
You cannot say Axl won if CD sells better than VR because Axl has a huge advantage by using the GNR name. The GNR name is a brand and it is a high end brand. GNR was SUPPOSED to be the biggest band ever, and was the biggest band at one point. CD will sell at least decently because of the GNR name and fanbase.
VR had to start from scratch and put themselves on the map, which they did as one of the elite bands of this time. They have not attained GNR's level but they have attained a pretty good level of success up to this point. Their second album did not sell as expected but that could be because it was never promoted properly.
I think CD is great but it is NOT what GNR was supposed to sound like. I am all for evolving and going in a different direction, but I do think some of the signature GNR elements are missing such as the catchy guitar riffs, bass lines, and drum beats. One of the reasons that I loved GNR was because every member stood out in their playing and you always heard everones instrument in the song. I mean how many signature riffs, bass lines, and drum beats are on AFD... WTTJ, Nightrain, ISE, PC, Mr. Brownstone, etc. I feel CD is Axl's voice, Axl's lyrics, piano/keyboards, and a few cool guitar solos.
Most the songs are about heart break making the album depressing and sad. GNR is supposed to be about sex drugs and rock and roll. They are supposed to be a dangerous band. I think Slash was still able to capture that dangerous ballsy rock with VR. You can say what you want about Scott and lyrics not being as good as Axl's but VR's guitars, bass, and drums rock hard!
I think Axl will enjoy success from CD, but I think Slash's decision was the best thing he could have done. If he would have stayed in GNR they may not have taken 17 years but I do believe they would have taken a long time nonetheless (maybe 10 years). Slash has released two Snakepit albums and two VR albums, played with a ton of people throughout these years, toured the world, gotten married, had two kids, etc. The alternative would have been to work on lets say this album for 17 years or ten years whatever at Axl's beck and call. If Slash and the original members would have released CD as it is now, they would have been shredded by the critics because it is nothing like GNR. I think Axl will get some slack from critics because they do not have Slash and the rest of the guys.
I think this bout is a draw because it is easier for Axl to succeed with the GNR name than for Slash to succeed with a new band that does not have the name GNR. VR has been the most succesful project after GNR from any former member.
