This is one of those "hate it or love it" songs. For sure.

is  it? maybe for hard rock/ \m/ fans it is but I think a general music fan would either like it a lot or love it.

Why would they
Tell me to please those

I think he is calling those people hypocrites

Like u spend all this time preaching this but when u get around certain people u fall over yourself to go against what u always believed.

like a two faced friend. Around u they tell u about these morals and beliefs but when they get around the "cool" kids they totally go against everything they have always told u they stand for.

Just my interpretation

How accurate are these lyrics:

Seems like forever and a day

If my intentions are misunderstood
Please be kind
I've done all I should
I won't ask of you
What I would not do
Oh, I saw the damage in you
My fortunate one
The envy of youth

Why would they
Tell me to please those
That laugh in my face
When all of the reasons
They've taught us
Fall over themselves
To give away

It's not a question
Whether my heart is true
Streamlined
I had to pull through
Look for a new
Beginning on you
Oh I got a message for you
Up and away
It's what I gotta do
Forgive what you have
For what you might lose

What would you say
If I told you that I'm to blame
And what would you do
If I had to deny your name
Where would you go if I told you
I love you
And then walked away
N' who should I turn to
If not for the ones
That you could not save
I told you when I found you
If there were doubts you
Should be careful and unafraid

Now
They surround you
And all that amounts to
Is love that you fed by
Perversion and pain

So if my affections
Are misunderstood
And you decide
I'm up
To no good
Don't ask me to
Enjoy them
Just for you

Ask yourself
Why I would choose
To prostitute myself
To live with fortune and shame
Oh yeah
When you should
Have turned to the hearts
Of the ones
That you would not save

I told you
When I found you
All that amounts to
Is love that you fed by
Perversion and pain

I know I'm old because...

When I hear the lyric "Please be kind....", I think of the video rental motto "Please be kind and rewind".  Way back before DVDs, when you rented a movie, it was on vidio tape and the stores would sometimes put a reminder on the video to rewind before you returned the movie. Also had reminders all over the casing and on posters and everything around the store.

Gets me EVERY time I hear it hihi

^I absolutely remember the "be kind rewind" also Grin, it was time consuming for the rental store and or next patron to have to do so.

I've seen some lyrics and I just don't think they are accurate.

Everyone keeps saying

"ask yourself, what I would do

but he says "Ask yourself, Why I would choose

I always thought the lyrics were

"Ask yourself, What I would choose
To Prostitute myself. "

I think that is such a great ending to the album, even those last few lyrics.

It truly is "Why I would choose..."

"What" doesn't make any grammatical sense.  Yeah, I know were talking about rock n' roll here, a pretty cheap genre of music... Smiley

I don't mind showing my age as I have experienced some great things in life, like the VCR and before that the first "Beta" movie players before the VCR lol, and lets not forget that I look to be in great shape for the shape I'm in and don't mind sayin so.

On topic though... Prostitute, one of my faves indeed, but as I know Axl's songs can sometimes be directed in many ways, interpreting it's full meaning, I'm not sure is totally possible.

It's mostly what I think, but I've marked were I've heard different, I have no idea if I'm right or wrong

-Mike

How accurate are these lyrics:

Seems like forever and a day

Oh, I saw the damage in you

Tell me to please those
That laugh in my face
When all of the reasons
They've taught us
Fall over themselves
To give away

It's not a question
Whether my heart is true
Streamlined - steamlined (as in being hit by a steamliner)
I had to pull through
Look for a new
Beginning on you
Oh I got a message for you
Up and away - all of the way
It's what I gotta do - Is what I've got to do
Forgive what you have - Give what you have

If I told you that I'm to blame
And what would you do
If I had to deny your name

Is love that you fed by - is love that you can't buy
Perversion and pain - from fortune and fame ??
