I don't understand how people can compare estranged and prostitute; estranged is just an avarage rock song with some interesting parts while prostitute is amazing song with amazing combination of everything ending one amazing album ...

ah well, I guess to each his own ...

IMO Estranged is far moe than an average rocker, it is for me the greatest song ever.
It's epic, the guitars are superb, as are axls lyrics and vocals, the song just flows seamlessly between two ends, it just is unfaultable

I still can't hear the bubbles.

Have you listened to this song (and album!) on headphones?  I generally don't notice the "bubbles" when I'm playing it through speakers, but it's clear as day on decent headphones.

Well I'll be damned.  Sounds like the 'pop-up video' bubbles (for those of you old enough to remember this).

No I don't use headphones as I can't keep still while listening to music.

I was sceptical as my stereo was supposed to be ok but as you said so, I tried with additional speakers for surround sound and sit back at a short distance and

hell you're right! Shocked

I agree with you about the comparison piece...  But to me, it's just because Prostitute needs to stand the test of time before that comparison can be made!  Estranged has to be one of the top 10 songs ever IMO.  Prostitute is definitely up there among the best songs I'm currently listening to, and may well be right there with Estranged in a few years...  Both are just phenonemal songs!

I really like this one and the lyrics. I know Axl wants us to have our own interpretation of them so to me they are directed to the fans and talking about the record itself and the challenges Axl and who followed him has gone thru meanwhile. IMO no other song in this album would fit better as the ending, because this gives a feeling of "done", "issues resolved", i'm in peace now", that sort of thing.

Of course it is Smiley It's just that I'd like to know / get why they are there for.

The bubbles are a reference back to the baby coming out of the bath in the Don't Cry video.

Also, take a look at the Estranged video, when Axl is under the shower - in a subliminal way - more bubbles!

It all amounts to bubbles and the symbolism of water - rebirth, new life, baptism etc.

Hope that helps!  Smiley

If the song is really inspired by Stephanie Seymour and is from that era, it makes sense to think the bubbles are a direct reference to rebirth, like there are such references in the trilogy don't cry/november rain/estranged videos. The new beggining thing is a frequent subject for Axl.

and one of the best songs to ever close out an album. easily one of the most powerful and moving songs that axl has ever written. i'm not sure that i have ever been this moved by an one song. right up there with some of the timeless greats.

At first this song did not convince me. But now I love it. It's like the younger brother of Estranged. You can feel in both of them the Axl's magic. Altough, I sure that Slash would have done a very much work on that. "Prostitute" deserved an awesome guitar solo. A "very good" song (like Prostitute) may turn into a CLASSIC song with a big guitar solo.

I agree, I'd love an epic and longer ronnie, finckster or buckethead solo on it

God forbid someone have an honest opinion Roll Eyes

This is a great song and has been one of my favorite since day one. This is definitely some of Axl's finest moments ever recorded.

lyrically, vocally it is just truly astounding.

I can't bash the above poster. The solo is good but I would love some great melodic guitar lines in there but it is still powerful and epic.

Im sure I will get bashed for this but Prostitute IMO and my opinion only isn't on the Estranged level. Estranged however is my favorite GNR song. That and Coma are my two favorites ever.

Estranged is just above Every single song ever written for me. Out of all the music in the history of the world, it is my favorite song of all time, so that is no slight on Prostitute or anything else

Estranged is a song that has literally saved my life a few times. It is my go to song. I have even coined it as a mood of mine when I am about to fall off the cliff.

the song just has a mood and tone to it and Axl's vocals are just on another level. the way his voice changes from the intro to the end.

Musically, NOTHING touches Estranged. It has so many epic parts. the beginning to Slash's melodies and I don't give a shit who u are, u can't take anything away from those guitar melodies.

Then u have the great mellow piano instrumental that is filled with so much "HOPE" and it brings u from the depths of despair of the first part to the possibility that u could possibly start anew and maybe find some happiness in life.

The last half of that song when Axl comes in with the vocals IS THE GREATEST 4 minutes or so of music in rock history

I always say that and the last 2 and a half minutes or so of Coma are some of the greatest things ever written

Prostitute pretty much keeps the same mood, music, tempo and theme throughout which is why it isn't on that kind of level

Great song don't get me wrong, but I put it more on a Patience, Don't Cry  Kind of level.

That I meant. More guitar melodies to the long of the song.
