After reading the interview with del I'm more leaning toward the idea that this song in essence might be about the band with the heroin heroine being his muse.
Also omnipresent, the muse is not something you can see as you wish.

I thought you meant the drug too!  Must admit, scratched my head a bit over that one!  Went home, listened to the song, and thought 'naaaa, I still don't get it'.  Better now, much less confused.

the part axl tells he too was missing something vital for music around after the illusion era .
and that it seems to me that he deeply loves the band as if it was a child he's raising.

I think it's one of the most beautiful tracks the band ever wrote (bar: "Estranged")... It's easily to see why some might dismiss it on first listen as sentimental toss, but it's obvious Axl means it, which in turn makes it.
