I think it could be about everything you want, its an open art AFAIK. it`s most likely either catcher in the rye
oh guess you're right. axl saiid he wasn't sure about catcher at the trunk show then. or Riad? Riad was on every setlist in 2006.

I just read a really annoying post on another message board about Stephanie Seymour being the inspiration for TIL . Yes, I'm with Annie on this one. Sooooo annoying! This I Love and Stephanie Seymore should NOT appear in the same sentence! The song is not about her! Or Erin, if that is your second guess. The song was written shortly after the break-up in 1993. It is about her.... I was annoyed with the 11 pages of discussion on the topic and some of the ignorant comments that were made.

was it completed then? What about the lyrics? I read that a writer can't write about a girl/boy with whom they've just broken off. it takes some time.

We do know that it was written (started) soon after the break up in 1993. I would also be interested in knowing the answer to your good question...

But yet you think it's more logical that Axl wrote the song 15 years in advance for a fictional vampire?

I discovered the TWILIGHT series one week after CHINESE DEMOCRACY came out, and the song just fits the character IMO. AXL himself said that he wanted people to make their own interpretations of the ballads. The thread at mygnr just really annoyed me.

correct. Q: And which women influenced the writing of the new ballades. A: Ha! We?ll get to these a bit later as they?re a bit more complicated than a simple answer of a few names but most are composites and became much more about the song than particular individuals. Also again I?d like people to have a chance to develop their own relationship with the material a bit. Not dodging as most of these answers will come out over time. http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/news/shownews.php?newsid=1974I like norways approach. not that I agree that it's a new Picture of Dorian Gray. the heroin wouldn't say goodbye but she seems to have left him and yet she can still be near him. Maybe she's departed. Or maybe she's his muse. (His love for music)

Having a GNR song in a vampire movie is not that much of a stretch. About 15 years ago, GNR did a cover of SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL in INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE.

oh my god, that would be amazing. some figureskater could probably fall, but still take home the gold just by skating to this amazing song. the judges would be too busy fighting their tears to notice any technical errors.

Christ I hope you are taking the piss. Please tell me you are joking??? I love the song But you are joking right? Sorry if im mistaken......just sometimes sits hard to tell on here....there are a few real psychos that mean this shit. A great song though, not a style id normally like , but a beautiful song nonetheless.

Am I on the wrong board? You really want a GNR song (even this pansy one) associated with ballet or figure skating? I know some of you really love this song and we can agree to disagree about that. But some of you have lost all ability for rational thought over it.

I said in the 'best ballad on CD' thread that I prefer the music of TIL than the vocal part, which I've never really thought about a GNR song before. I'd like to hear an instrumental version of this song. That said, I guess I can see why so many people like this song, it's just not one of my personal favourites of the album. And take this bizarre argument to the figure-skating thread.

It's rational enough to picture performers of michelle qwan's or silvie guillem's caliber making spins and spirals to this song.

GNR and figure skating don't go together. Period. The extreme minority you speak of is the people who post on this board praising the song. I've played it for other GNR fans (don't post on message boards) and they turn up their nose about 10 seconds in. Tell me how (other than your own opinion) is this "quickly becoming one of the greatest and most touching ballads of ALL TIME." Evidence?

donno about "one of the greatest and most touching ballads of ALL TIME." bit but people that like watching figureskating and would love the song aren't the minority in the real world.
