This song got me misty-eyed.
The vocals are amazing and flawless, as they are all over the album.
The solo was great, however I wouldn't mind it a bit heavier or the song getting heavier towards the end.
Anyway, still beautiful.

its such a vaginal song
Seriously. No disrespect or nothin'.
lol yeah i'm seriouse. Its a Great song and i love it but its such a chick song. its gonna be the song that pulls in newer teenaged girls into the fan base and i can TOTALLY see that song being played at a concert with all the girls and D going AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and all the dudes going awww what the fuck. As for me, i'm some where in the middle, the guy that puts his arm around his date and some stranger with lighters in hand
.........that reminds me, say jarmo, can you make a smiley like that where the lil guy is like waving a lighter? gracious

Just MY opinion..... I think the song is a little boring and a little monotenous.
I am suprised it is the most popular song from the album on HTGH.

for sure my favorite song on the album. Sounds something that would belong in the Illusions. Was this song scrapped from that album because Axl thought it wasn't finished? Anyway it sounds like its from that era and quite different than any of the other ballads on Chinese Democracy.

I disagree with your opinion of the song- which, of course, is cool.
That said- to answer your question- I think its popularity is largely explainable by the fact that in contrast to rest of the album (which is amazing IMHO)- it's the one track that really sounds like classic "Guns N' Roses" (
Illusion
era at least). Axl's vocals are direct and endearingly sincere and Robin's solo rather than being a blast of virtuosity or pro-tools is lathered in Slash's left-over Jack Daniels. Just an absolutely gorgeous and nostalgic track for so many of us. A real gift from Axl to change up pace on an album so precise and painstakingly arranged and throw the long-time fans a track like that on track 13. I was floored the first time I heard the song- in fact I couldn't even finish it the first time through I was so overcome. Hope that helps. Anyway- just my view of things.

First of all, the best song of GN'R's history. A few days ago I could say that "Estranged" was the biggest song but today...my point of view totally changed
I would like to listen this baby played live but I think that's quite impossible, I see Axl very commited with his feelings here. I don't think this is easy for him to play live.
This is our reward for those who stayed loyal through this years.
You need big balls to sing and communicate something like this. Axl have it.
If listening this song you don't feel anything, you're made of stone.

Not a big deal, but my point is a girl who breaks a guy's heart (intentionaly or not) would rather have him writing a beautiful song about it than being an ass trying to hurt her back.
That's about how it works I guess.

Then again, if that guy happens to front a world famous rock band, then I'd argue that the song writing could be far worse than, say, him destroying all this shit she left at his place after the breakup.

Beautiful song, can't get enough of it. The orchestration reminded me a bit of X Japan, with the strings and the harp.
And Robin's solo is amazing, complements the song perfectly.
One last note; it sounds alot like 'younger Axl' on this song if you know what I mean. His voice has changed a bit over the years especially in comparison to other songs on the album, but this one reminds me of classic Axl

Architecturally, this song is the equivalent of the palace at Versailles - lush, lavish and luxurious in sound and melody.
The histrionic lyrics are over the top but intended to be just so. It took me a few listens, but I like it.

the simplicity of the lyrics and the way Axl sings them make the song sound so impressive
this is the classiest song on the album.

I can't get this song away from my soul. It's such a touching song in every way. The lyrics are so great.
The harp is stunning and the guitar and solo rivet your spine
