Everybody I have played this to loves this song, its really suprising to see it has such a mixed reception with GNR fans.
Only problem I have with it now is my car stereo wont go any louder when its on, no matter how many times I press the button.

Feels like I'm living inside of this song
- with the wall of sound that the music creates, I can really feel being cloistered inside!

I think this is a downright awesome rock song. The part when Axl screams Trueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for like 15 seconds is actually the highlight of the whole album for me. Plus I think its cool when the trumpets go off in the backround, I just think its a great song.

Love the solo they added like 1/4 through the track. It was always one of my favorites, and I never understood why people always thought it was so "meh". Awesome, edgey rocker

Great song, one of my favs. Very heavy. Reminds me of My Michelle in its heaviness.

I gotta be honest n say I see this as an Axl Rose album but after listening to CD all the way through over n over again IRS is hands down one of the best songs to be released on an album in a long time. At first I thought Better then Sorry but I kept finding myself going back to this over n over. Brilliant song

For some reason, despite never much caring for the song since it first leaked, and having no time for it at all when the album came out, I've suddenly started to like it loads this weekend. It still sounds like it was recorded for a different album from the rest of the tracks, though.

I love that little drum fill that was done on the last tours is in there at the end (around 3:53).
I'm assuming that's Frank because that's how he played it.

Really into this song lately so thought I'd share some thoughts. Took me a while to find this thread!
Always enjoyed the song live, it was the leak at the time that I didn't like....but the album version won me over...and it has risen up the charts for me in regards to my favorites on the album. Love the drumming on the song (always enjoy hearing Frank's drumming kicking in to go with Brain's) and Axl's vocals are much grittier and angry than in the leaks which really puts the song over for me.
I really LOVE the line "feelin' like I'm done way more than wrong....feelin' like I'm livin' inside of this song..."
Always thought it was "feelin' like
I'VE
..." when listening to the leak and at concerts...but when the album came out and saw the official lyrics (it's right in both the fugazi and real booklet) I just really loved this part! Makes so much more sense and just written brilliantly!
I.R.S.
Man, would have never thought I would dig this song as much as I do...the album version just really won me over.
Looking forward to hearing it live again when I see another G N' R show....hopefully in the States! Unfortunately it wasn't in the set list at the two Canadian shows I attended (but I'm not complaining, we got "T.W.A.T." in Hamilton!) but yep definitely looking forward to hearing it live again.

Honestly the way i look to CD, it has 5 really great songs! Better, Chinese Democracy, Catcher in The Rye, If The World and Scraped! It has 5 so so songs: Shacklers Revenge, Prostitute and This I love, Street of Dreams, TWAT
Then it has the crappy songs: Madagascar, Sorry, IRS and Riad.
IRS - 2/5, The reason i dont like this song because in general its pretty much a filler to me. Its not very interesting musically, lyrically and the guitars are pretty boring. Now i always thought IRS was a bad song and always thought it looks more like an unreleased gem like Just another sunday for example, but i have to say that the 1999 version that leaked a couple years ago was a little bit better then the album version, maybe if they had continued pursued that version they would have made it a little better, but in general i think the lyrics are pretty bad and i dont see anything interesting in the song. Im sorry if im being too up front but its my opinion!
Now i know you're gonna ask why did i put TWAT as a so so song, well before you ask, ill say simply because i hate that intro and because i hate the background voices that Axl added to the album version (when he sings wrong time). I also think the 1999 version that leaked years ago was much better, without that intro and the voices...

It's a metaphor. It's all about calling out someone for always being a dick... someone that thinks nobody realizes that's what he's doing.
It's like cheating on your taxes. Someone's gonna know.

I don't think you should take it so literally...thats the joy about music, you can turn it into however you want it to fit your own life. And that's whats great about Guns.....their songs translate so well to our own situations.
