Riad is my favorite song since I first heard Vegas bootleg before RIR 3 in 2001.  I still can't get enough with it, it fucking rocks so much. Ron's solo just added a whole new level of weirdness that I love in this song, from the tempo changes to Robin's lead following Axl's vocals in the chorus.

I didn't like the bootleg versions I heard from 2002, but I'd certainly be willing to give it another shot.  I like the studio version MUCH better.

Maybe because of the quality of the recording? I remember people saying how Riad were "techno" or "eletronica", when in fact its one of the most straight foward songs in the album - and it didn't change much since 2001.

Yeah, the audio wasnt too good a quality, that probably accounts for some of it

If you want a fucking supersonic musical experience that will leave you in awe of the complexity of sound, put Chinese Democracy in your laptop (or stereo) and put on some really good headphones. I'm not talking about these fucking itunes plugs here, but real headphones. Then put on song number 9, turn the volume up and press play. I guarantee you that some four minutes later you will feel like you've really experienced something. Trust me. If you haven't done it yet, do it, if you've done it plenty of times like me, keep doing it. Riad on headphones is a true sonic experience. Just a friendly tip from a fellow gunner. Peace!

I did it the first time I listened to CD. Actually, I bought a really good pair of headphones at the same store I bought my copy of Chinese Democracy.

When I saw the title of the thread I though someone discovered some sort of backmasking message hidden somewhere in the song where you could find phoebe buffay's cookie recipe.

Is just me or does anybody think Riad N The Bedouins is about the old guns ? if you listen to the lyrics it kinda makes sense.  All the frustration, caught in the lies ? maybe im just looking into things too much ?

Riad is more about Erin Everly.

The drum arrangement by Josh Freese and played by Brain is one of the best I've ever seen. Maybe the best on Guns N' Roses all time.

The riffing (courtesy of Tommy) is fucking bad ass too, specially in the first part of the song. Love how they used the same riff again, slightly different, in the second part of the solo (when Ron uses his fretless).

This is def the song to listen it as loud as possible.

I was always lukewarm about Riad . Never hated it, but never liked/loved it. The studio version is insane. Its such a kickass song. You can pretty much blast almost any song on this album and feel like your going to go insane. I do it almost every night when drving home. Roll down the windows, open the sun roof....turn it up....its sweeetttt

I love the album and it's got even better legs than I thought. It was obvius from the get-go, that this album was pretty much timeless. In 10 years, 20 years, it will still sound as rich and vital as it does now, but I'm still blasting it every two to three days in the car or on our stereo and it's been four months since the release.

Of all the songs, maybe Riad and ITW didn't kick me on my behind as fast as all the rest of the songs did.

But lately I've really warmed to Riad. It's insane! Love it. Axl is vocally doing cartwheels and the DRUMMING is alien. The feel and snap of the drums is so crisp. The melody is fuu-yah!

Most of the new songs have taken a few times to settle down in a live setting, but the two (three?) times they've played Riad, they've pretty much nailed it. This holds excitement for the next tour!

I think they will play it on the upcoming trek for sure.

Tommy is mad about it too (and co-wrote it) it seems (his recent interveiw).

depends on your point of view....for me, IRS and Madagascar are fillers...i skip them regularly...maybe listened to them once since the album came out...the rest of the album is superb...but those two songs for me feel completely out of place, and personally speaking...should have been left out...

well what you said about IRS, I think that song is always better live, but in saying that, If Axl had the same vocals in the studio version of IRS as he did on Bach's song 'Stuck Inside', the song would be twice as good as what it is now, the only complaint with the studio version of IRS is the lack of 'fire' from Axls vocals,

Riad has always been my favorite since HOB 01/01/01 , and I think ti will truly be a highlight at the concerts in 2009 more so then anything else.

Same here. I was really bummed when watching RIR3 live because they didn't play Riad, which was my favorite already. And that didn't change much...

ps: I love IRS the way it is, but live is indeed cooler.

love the vocals on the album. on irs live he doesn't go that high 'truuuueeeeee' but yea sounds very eager and intense.

I think riad has been played several times live.   my fav off those 2001/2 boots.
