I really didn't like the live versions, I didn't think I could like this song, now I love it.  I've almost erased all memories of the live versions.

Riad for setlist opener 2009! beer

Haha, that's funny, I was thinking the same thing while listening to it a few minutes ago! I used to think Chinese Democracy would be the best opener (and I still think it would be a great opener), but Rhiad has even more of a Welcome To Jungle type rawness to it than CD! Anyway, both would be great as openers, but Rhiad is the song that has grown on me the most lately. I now officially love every single song on the album, and it feels great! Grin smoking beer

Yeah. I think either Shackler's, Better, or this would be the best.

I think the song Chinese Democracy would be a better opener. Not only because its the first single but because its such a cool intro.

Look. Rhiad is fucking great. Sometimes I forget how much it kicks ass then like this morning, I was playing CD loud as fuck in my car, on my way to work, and this song kicked my in the face again. Great shit.

I haven't listened to CD as much as I would have liked to since it came out but on first listen, Riad was one of the standouts for me. It's nice to hear the proper studio version after hearing just audience bootlegs of it.

And I don't know about anyone else but I love the "ah ah ah ah" bits. Grin They just sound cool!

I think Riad would be better as the opening song for the encore.

Chinese definitely has to open the show though.

From first listen of this song on the album, I feel like there is a great sci-fi story behind it.  I want to write one if there isn't! hihi  I don't think I could capture it though.  "Somewhere in time where only I can tell" That line calls to me.

A little universe that someone accidently created.  The inhabitants are warring, but the creator has gone insane and doesn't care anymore.  The creator could fix the issue by looking through the time track, but doesn't want to, or is just tired of the whole damn thing. Their constant warring, lies, and crys for help just make the creator want to let the whole thing go.

I know it's not the ACTUAL meaning behind it, but that's the story I want to write about it Grin

It's one of my favorite songs on the album!

Oh, hell, who am I kidding. They're all my favorites. But Riad is one of the very best!

Call me crazy, but to me this is the most "old school" sounding rocker on here.  Def one of my favorites.

I've like the "Immigrant Song" opening since Vegas 01/01/01..Thought it was vocally to fast live..Especially for an unfamilular song..Reminded me of Perfect Crime live prior to UYI release..GN'R opened w/ it and it was hard to follow because it was the 1st time I heard it...When they opened w/ it at Giants Stadium a couple of years later it was great because I was familular w/ it..I'm sure Rhiad will be the same..

I still can't get over how good this song is.
I really don't understand people who say they hated the live version but love the album version, though. I'm surprised by how how similar the album version sounds to the HBO bootleg. I also think it's pathetic how fans of only the old band bash this song just because it's performed by a new band, because Riad sounds like a 2008 version of Appetite For Destruction. Those same people would dig the hell out of it if it had other musicians playing the same parts.

Is just me or does anybody think Riad N The Bedouins is about the old guns ? if you listen to the lyrics it kinda makes sense.  All the frustration, caught in the lies ? maybe im just looking into things too much ?

Damn..you totally read my mind.

I was just gonna say, Chinese Democracy open the show, then Riad for an encore, with that crazy intro.
