I think the official Billboard tallies will be out Wednesday or Thursday.

Ali

My understanding is that the numbers are usually pretty close?

Pretty close, but not exact.  The official tallies are the Billboard ones.

Quote
Swift continued to be the big winner in a losing week, as sales were down 55 percent from the previous week and 14 percent below the numbers from the same week last year.

Music is everywhere nowadays.

Everywhere you look you see people listening to music in their cars, on their iPods or mobile phones.

Yet music sales keep going down every year....

Ironic.

Most people can't be bothered to spend $15 on a piece of plastic when they can just download it for free.

Sad but true.

Yeah.

It's like with newspapers and magazines.

People still read newspapers. But mostly those free ones on the subway!

Yeah, it's really sad how society has gradually degenerated into a culture of stinginess.

Even most of my family this year decided that they were no longer giving out Christmas presents, just on birthdays from now on Lips Sealed

The recession hasn't helped but I'd say it's more a culture of people deciding they should no longer have to pay for music, which I don't understand if you really enjoy it.  These are the same people that will pay $40 for a nice meal at a nice restaurant.  That equals about an hour of enjoyment compared to a great album which can stay with you the rest of your life.

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do. It wasn't a glove, believe me.

Yes, apparently it has, according to SoundScan.  Does anyone have access to those numbers?

Edit:

It has passed the 500,000 mark, not sure if it is officially certified yet.

Notice I said "gradually," implying this culture of stinginess predates the global recession ok

because most releases won't be in your player after a month while the meal will stay with you as fat for long. hihi

on the other hand, cd will stay with you nourishing your body and soul for the rest of your life.

I'm sure they shipped more than that to Best Buy.

 Huh

Still, great news.

I'm sure they did too... the number I've heard thrown around is 1.6 million copies shipped to Best Buy- which would make it platinum and then some. I'm not sure how RIAA deals with "exclusive deals" though. Maybe they hold up official certification until the deal expires and the album is widely available?

Whatever the case, an important first threshold (Gold/500,000 sold in US) has been reached. Congratulations to the band! beer
