What is the arguement?

GUns N' Roses have a top 40 single already, and the album WILL debut @ #1

What else can you ask for?

Fact:
Sales will only increase when there would be more promotion and a videoclip would be released...

Personally, I don't care if the album hits nr. 1 or not...it is just cool to see my fav band is being appreciated by many, meaning sales goes well...  peace

December 2 is when Better will be officially released as a single to the radio stations,

so we can only assume that then is when gnr will drop a music video to coincide it..

Okay...I'm going to ask (not sure if it's been fully explained).

How is it that GN'R's album has only been available in the U.S. for four days (three if you go back to yesterday when the statement was made) yet it is 'known' what chart position they will be in (and Kanye's, for that matter) come next week (for it's opening week)? I thought the figures counted from Tuesday to Tuesday, which, given GN'R's Sunday debut, only helped them sell more albums. When did Kanye's album actually come out? The 25th?

Can someone clear up how these figures have already been calculated when there are still 5 more BIG sales days left to count?

For GN'R, they're doing Sunday-Saturday sales.

Oh, really? Didn't know that.

Still, there are two REALLY big sales days to go...how can it be determined what position they'll be in if there are two more sales days to go (three if you count today)?

US wise: 300 to 500 is a little disappointing only because of AC/DC selling 780. And because of a lot of the "hype" about legendary, world shaping sounds etc etc and world changing promotion etc. Reality is, this is a niche album for now and by those standards it's doing well--300 thousand people are REALLY excited about this band and this record. We'll see what word of mouth, touring, eventual video, new singles etc do for Axl. I think it's four times the record Black Ice is, but it has a lot of negativity to over come to reach 2 or 3 million sales. I have faith in Axl, but not in the American public. World sales totaled will be pretty good though.

Can the 1st page be updated weekly or whenever the charts are updated?
Also is the placings on that page just downloads or are they total sales?

comparing to ACDC and metallica does make alot of sense.

BUT, you need to factor in Best Buy vs. Walmart vs. no exclusive deal.

there are FAR less Best Buy stores in the U.S. than Walmarts. I believe there's about 1,000 BB vs. 4,000 Walmarts vs. metallica's CD being sold everywhere.

then add in the fact that Best Buy is hurting. Revenues are down, while Walmart's revenues are up. because of the economy, people are not buying TVs/appliances/etc., and staying away from places like Best Buy. and conversely, they are MORE inclined to go to a store like Walmart for daily essentials and low cost house items.

This is actually kind of upsetting to me. These numbers are way below what I expected. Then again, Kanye's numbers are waaaay low for him. Anyone have number of what his last 2 sold? I seem to remember them being considerably higher.

... damnit.

Kanye's last sold damn near 1 million first week, so yeah his are way down also.

The thing with Best Buy is, if People don't buy their music they won't even know a GNR album is out. With Walmart, EVERYBODY shops there, so u see the promotion and the displays whether u want to or not.

maybe Best Buy wasn't the best deal to sell a lot of records but it doesn't matter really, cause with the BB deal, GNR have already sold 2.5 million to them.

those things were taken into consideration. GnR doesn't care if the album sells more records in week 1 than some other bands. i don't know the specifics of their deal with Best Buy. but the gnr/label got a good chunk of money up front.

i'm guessing Best Buy is more concerned about week 1 sales than anyone else. and i also believe they will be thrilled with 300K during the first week.

a fair comparison to other rock/metal albums should be made after the albums have been out for several months, and it should be based on worldwide sales. kid rock sold 172,000 in the first week, but has stayed on the charts for over a year and is now well over a million copies sold.

GNR projected to beat Kanye in Canada.

Personally I don't care if GNR sells more than Kanye or the Killers.

The economy could be a huge factor too.

People barely have money for food and gas, let alone a new album.

I think Chinese Democracy will do fine. Not too concerned if he is beaten by Kayne West in the first week. Axl has more than enough material for cd to have lasting power.

300K is well below my own expectations and something of a disappointment but maybe we should have tempered expectations earlier.  I was thinking about this the other day

Where I live now, Best Buy is about a 15 minute drive one way.  Not bad, but there are at least 7 places that sell music that are closer.  Where I lived before, the closest Best Buy was a 20-40 minute drive one way depending on traffic, with literally dozens of place to buy music that were closer

Putting myself in the casual fan's shoes, it's easy to see why the sales aren't as high as we thought.  Some of these people will buy it on iTunes, but a lot of people don't use iTunes.  So gross sales are going to be down.  People who might pop in to the local record store on the way home from work or buy it at Target or whatever when they're stopping in for groceries are not buying the album because they don't care enough to go out of their way to get it

As has already been pointed out, Wal-Mart has roughly 3 times as many locations in the US as Best Buy, and they attract a lot wider range of clientele.  Best Buy sells strictly electronics while Wal-Mart sells everything, and there are over 100 million customers a week at Wal-Mart.  Not sure what Best Buy does in foot traffic but I guarantee it's not even close to that.

I think maybe we were all blinded by our own enthusiasm a bit.  I've been predicting 500-700K in the first week for years now and I maintained that prediction now.  Realistically though it wasn't going to sell that much as a Best Buy exclusive.

But again, if their goal was just to maximize gross sales they never would've gone with Best Buy to begin with.  They would've done a wide release or done it through Wal-Mart.  Obviously Best Buy offered them the best deal so they took it.  Best Buy is the one who will be hurt by lower than expected sales, not UMG or GnR.  But we don't even know what Best Buy's expectations were.  Maybe they were in line with this; 300K is a hell of a lot more than they would've sold if this album was a wide release.  They got a fat chunk of cash up front for the exclusive deal and album will still easily come in #1 in worldwide sales.  Better is getting its official wide release on Tuesday which should also drive sales.  That song will be much bigger than CD was
