The album selling a shit load is/would be cool , but if it doesn't them that is the lose of those that don't buy it . Cause it is fucking great.
That's exactly how I see it. And think about those Chinese fans
They'll get it the same way they've gotten hard rock for the past 20 years. Underground.

A video or an appearance isn't going to kick up album sales by a couple hundred thousand. Why don't we wait and see what happens first. Some people are living in this it is still a 1991 music industry mode. Albums just don't sell as well as they used to.
Yes it does, a great video and/or appearances do kick album sales by a couple hundred thousands. If you would read hitsdoubledaily.com regularly you would see how often those simple promotional activities payoff
immediately
.
It's not 1991 anymore but big rock bands are still shifting 500k+ in the first week, aren't they?
The thing is, that I got a funny feeling that if the album
does not perform well the first week
, it will be deemed as a major flop - and that would of course effect the time and money available for Axl to finish the other two albums, as well it would hurt all touring plans. On the other hand, if it will reach #1, it will be considered the comeback of the century, and Axl will be once again have all the time and money he needs to release other bloated masterpieces we all love.

Some good sales would be nice for the sake of the band and the music getting the recognition it deserves; otherwise it's not important. I'm not really concerned how many copies of "Death Magnetic" were sold in the first 2 days of sale or how many AC/DC managed in their first week. This album is my #1. And I don't care how lame that sounds.

http://lista.vg.no/show_list.php?ListsOp=showWeek&listID=2
The album is #5 on the sales list based on last week's sales, and it was released on Saturday, i.e. it's only been available for two of potential seven days

I think a lot of people are putting way too much emphasis on first week sales. There are a core group of loyal fans (us included) who will drive most of the sales the first week, but to be a success, GnR are going to have to prove themselves relevant again. They are going to have to support this album with singles, videos, a tour, and at some point Axl is going to have to talk about it. That is all assuming he wants GnR to be relevant again, which I seem to think only makes sense given the album has finally been released.
I agree with others though, if people don't pick up this album it is their loss because it absolutely an awesome record. With the quality of music on CD, they could easily become as popular as they were from '91 - '93.

It's also doing well on the Top 10 albums and not just the Rock Chart
http://www.apple.com/euro/itunes/charts/top10albums.html
Mostly #1 and #2 in all the countries listed.

If they are in the 500 - 300k range, I'd say Kanye's a lock for #1.
I can't wait until America pulls its collective head out of hip-hop's ass.
Will never happen, because hip-hop continues to innovate and work hard at their craft. Until rock comes back and starts pumping out quality shit, hip-hop will remain king...
So now will you bring back quality Hard Rock of the 80's to get rid of the Rap crap??? It would be the solution, the only one.

GUNS N' ROSES' 'Democracy' Is A Hit In UK, Finland - Nov. 25, 2008
Music Week reports that GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album "Chinese Democracy" sold 50,791 copies in the U.K. in its first day of release, according to midweek sales figures. The CD is trailing the latest LP from THE KILLERS, "Day And Age", which moved 70,764 units the day that it was issued.
In other news, "Chinese Democracy" has already been certified platinum in Finland. The Finnish platinum award for domestic albums recognizes sales in excess of 30,000 copies, while the same award is given out to foreign artists for shifting 20,000 units of a single album.

LET?S GET PHYSICAL: The simultaneous release of Guns N? Roses? Chinese Democracy at Best Buy and on iTunes last Sunday has caused havoc with the usual SoundScan reporting system (see related items below). In order not to separate out the album?s ?first-week? sales into two separate charts, and under considerable muscle from GNR?s label IGA, SoundScan has agreed to ?hold the digital sales of any album which has a physical counterpart in order to accommodate first-week charting.? Any digital sales accrued during a period that doesn?t match the initial reporting week of a physical release will be carried over to the tracking period of that release. No digital sales will be held for more than one reporting week though, with each request decided on a case-by-case basis. In other words, SoundScan will do what they damn well please. (11/25a)
