Usually, on Wednesday.  Although, with 5 albums pushing early, that might change.  That being said, I think the plan was to withhold sales figures from Sunday (23rd) until the end of the week.

Geffen was originally anticipating a 600K first week figure, btw.

Where did that 600k info come from?

I'be surprised if they move fewer units in the US than AC/DC opening week which was around 785.000.
Jimmy Iovine seemed pretty confident in the Billboard article about the albums sales.

Yeah.  You'd think Itunes could offset the additonal units AC/DC moved by the Walmart deal.  Just by the sheer number of people that walk into a walmart on a daily basis would give a huge advantage in moving the actual physical CD than at Best Buy.  600k would still be a nice week though.  I just don't want that assclown Kayne taking the number one spot.

RUN FOR THE ROSES: The unprecedented Sunday release of Guns N? Roses? Geffen album Chinese Democracy as a Best Buy exclusive is causing havoc on the sales charts, making the guesstimate process even more of a crapshoot than usual. After yesterday?s first-day sales, which include a reported 25k downloads at iTunes, first-week sales prognostications are ranging anywhere from 300-500k. We?ll keep you posted as the week goes on, as this number is bound to fluctuate. Thanks to a recent controversial SoundScan ruling about counting digital sales, Chinese Democracy will not debut on tomorrow?s chart, but the following Tuesday, Dec. 2. (11/24p)

anyone know when the prelim soundscan numbers will come out for the states?

Wondering that myself.

From an MTV article.

"a spokesperson for Geffen told MTV News that first-day sales figures for Chinese Democracy will not be reported to Nielsen SoundScan until November 30, the same day West's label will report his week-one sales"

I wonder why that is?

It gives GNR's first week an extra 2 days on all other albums deputing on the charts next week. That should help them get the #1 spot for sure.

It will also give Kanye an excuse should he debut at #2. Haha

I hope he does get beat, he will bitch and moan thus giving GNR more publicity. Plus it will give me even more reasons to laugh at him.

GUNS N' ROSES: 'Chinese Democracy' First-Week Sales In 300-500K Range - Nov. 24, 2008

According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, first-week U.S. sales prognostications for GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", are ranging anywhere from 300,000 to 500,000 (including a reported 25,000 downloads at iTunes). Thanks to a recent controversial Nielsen SoundScan ruling about counting digital sales, "Chinese Democracy" will not debut on this week's The Billboard 200 chart, but the following week, December 3.

In other news, GUNS N' ROSES' free MySpace streaming premiere of "Chinese Democracy" attracted 8,429,387 plays in its first four days on the site, more than half a million ahead of the previous record-holder, BEYONCE, after being up half the time.

"Chinese Democracy" went on sale on Sunday exclusively at Best Buy for $11.99 on CD, and $19.99 for the two-record LP, which also includes a code to download the music for free.

It means that on December 3 it will chart with 300-500k of sales, according to their predictions.

Isn't that somewhat of a let down?

I think 500k would be o.k.  Not great at all, but all things considered o.k.

If it is closer to 300k, then I would seriously worry about the future of this incarnation of the band.  I hope it isn't the case that this record has to sell a certain amount for the other recorded material to come out, but who knows.

Then again this is just a prediction, and one that Hits admits is a crapshoot given Black Friday and the initial release on a Sunday.
