Not only were people picking up multiple copies at my Best Buy around 9:45 am (hell, I bought 3 CDs and 1 vinyl), but they were seriously excited to be buying the album. They were all talking about individual songs, wearing T-shirts, etc. It was pretty incredible to see. I get the feeling sales will be pretty strong, and that's an understatement.
not where I got mine! No one payed any attention to it
I walked past it once before I found it

Guns n? Roses Sells 3,454 Units On Friday
by Paul Cashmere - November 24 2008
Guns n? Roses `Chinese Democracy` had a relatively lukewarm first day of sales in Australia with stores registering 3,454 sales on Friday, the day before the album`s official release.
The release date for music in Australia is Saturday (the start of the new ARIA chart week) but it has become standard for stores to break embargos and sell major releases as soon as they receive them.
Albums by AC/DC, Metallica, Pink and Kings of Leon were all sold early by stores but sales prior to an official release date are not recognized for the ARIA chart.
By breaking embargo, stores sold 4,751 units of Kings of Leon ?Only By The Night? early. Metallica ?Death Magnetic? did 4,849 units, Pink did 7,120 and AC/DC sold 7,265 pre-official release. All of these albums debuted in the Top 5 on the early figures.
The 3,454 figure for `Chinese Democracy` was only enough to make it the 20th biggest album of the week.

In Traverse City, MI the display had a steady flow of people buying the cd. When I checked out, there was a young kid (11 -13?) at the register in front of me buying the cd. In the register behind me there was a early 20's/college age kid buying and a husband and wife (mid-thirties) buying it across from me. So at that one point in time, there were four of us buying it. Four out of 7 open lanes were checking out a Chinese Democracy cd at the same time, not bad for a small town like TC. I asked the clerk if people had been buying it, and she said that it had been a steady flow all day, just like it was then. The clerk was about a 40 year old woman.

So any idea of what the early sales figures are like?
I remember one poster on here saying it went gold in the Netherlands in about 3 hours.
Looks like it had a good start in the UK too:

Not surprised. The main band from there is "Nightwish" which is a very dynamic metal band. In general I think this CD will sell better in Europe then it will in the U.S. which makes sense because any country that can make Miley Cirus a star can not be trusted when it comes to musical taste
Man I would love to see Nightwish open for GnR that would be sweet.

hehehe
wonder how it's selling in belgium...
When i bought it on friday around noon (it was released on friday here) it was already at the number 4 spot of best sold cd's in the store (it was a Free Record Shop)!!!
But it seems the list on their site still needs to be updated:

Don't know how many of you guys use last.fm (it collects the songs your listening to and displays them in charts) but on the Guns N' Roses page pretty much the whole chart is filled with Chinese songs. The numbers below the song title is how many plays it has.
1
Chinese Democracy
14,343
2
Welcome to the Jungle
13,217
3
Better
11,353
4
Paradise City
10,811
5
Sweet Child o' Mine
10,739
6
November Rain
10,726
7
Shackler's Revenge
10,053
8
If The World
8,998
9
Street Of Dreams
8,908
10
There Was A Time
8,849
11
Catcher In The Rye
8,129
12
Madagascar
7,642
13
Scraped
7,175
14
This I love
6,760
15
Sorry
6,532
Also "If The World" and "Catcher In The Rye" are on the most hyped tracks on the overall charts
Now if only the Windows Media Player database would update so that it recognizes Chinese Democracy when you play it in your CD Player on your PC...
