Didn't I-tunes have some Journey song as number one this week?

"Don't Stop"... says it all. Fuck Bill Gates!!!

"some Journey song"... that song is awesome!

Nope, they were a killer band before they hired that whinny ass singer. Check out "Spaceman" for their real potential.

Well "Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy" is going to crush "AcDc Black Ice" because of Itunes, it panders to a younger audience while Best Buy and other stores world wide are going to be selling to the older fans.

i hope that you're right, Ac/dc had one hell of a marketing campaign

Yeah AC/DC did have a great marketing campaign for the new album and tour. I don't think Guns N' Roses needed one as big for an album that has been in the works for so long now. It will be great to see it sell over 1 million the 1st week out. The numbers on the charts look great for just the pre-order.  beer

I don't have the time to go through all countries, but it's the #1 album on the Norwegian iTunes right now at least!  peace

I want to make a post about this, cause I have seen this elsewhere and people thinking CD isn't gonna outsell Kanye or do well due to the low number on the Itunes chart.

Right now they are sitting at number 15.

Reasons for this are:

Most people use Itunes for singles. So the number of actual Itunes album sales normally aren't a huge number.

Most importantly, Itunes usually are for people who are fans and just want the music. So many just buy it off Itunes for convenience. Can buy it, DL it and Sync it in one easy foul swoop.

I normally do this as well. Almost all the albums I have bought have been on Itunes.

BUT

I will not buy CD on Itunes because like many other GNR fans I am sure, we want a Physical Copy.  To DL this off Itunes would feel too much like DL new leaks.

I want the CD and Im sure the millions of other fans want the actual CD. This is why the Itunes number is low. people WANT the CD, not just the digital.

So u will see it hit anywhere from 750 to 1 million guaranteed first week.

It was in the top 10 for like a week even though it still isn't out, that is pretty impressive just for pre-orders.  I'm betting it'll hit at least #2 next week (Kanye West has a much younger fanbase and a lot larger % of the people buying that album will do it online)

yeah, exactly, thats what I am saying.

Kanye fans are the Ipod generation. A lot of kids can't be bothered with going to a store, buying a CD, waiting in line THEN coming home and having to rip it.

much easier to sit on your ass at the house and just hit a button.

CD is such an event though, that having anything less than the Physical copy won't feel real so most of the GNR fanbase who normally would push an album to number 1 on Itunes, aren't ordering it on Itunes cause they want the physical CD.

CD is currently #2 in the 'Top Albums' list in the UK iTunes store behind the Now 71 compilation. But I'm waiting to buy the actual CD dammit!

well cds are also the main way people listen to music. even today with technology at hand, cd's account for 80% of purchases.  download only at 20%. people want an item in their hands. its as simple as that.

It's never come close to making the top ten on amazon.co.uk so far, which is disappointing, and now it's falling. I'm not sure we're even talking about a war with The Killers for the top spot in the UK anymore, just hoping that it makes No.2. Curiously, the King of Leon album that's been out for a while is above The Killers on amazon.co.uk. Kings of Leon are arguably now the biggest rock band in the UK. What's that all about? Are they another American band that Americans don't care about (not unlike the Killers), so they come over here and leach off our muppet supermarket shoppers instead?

What might save CD is that it should be popular with vinyl collectors, whereas many fans of those other acts wouldn't even know what vinyl is.
