Let me say that CD has been selling at my local independent record store for a few months now. The price isn't great (around $18) and it isn't very visible in the store but it's there.  Don't know how widespread this might be.
I remember people saying they got saw it at their local independent record stores days before it hit Best Buy, so I imagine they're still selling it.  Still it's not at Target, Wal-Mart, Sam Goody, etc.  It's a proven fact it's not at as many stores as most major releases.  Not sure why this is even being debated.

Are we still analyzing the best buy deal?  That idea was about as good as this current stimulus package.

Totally. it's not an opinion or an excuse. basically who needs an excuse for the third best selling rock album in the world of the year.

well my facts were partly wrong as ShotgunBlues1978 corrected, there were only 850-860 BB stores in the US

Yes wal mart has more stores.

Still a bb release isn't a limited one by any stretch.

Those 860 US Stores seem to counter that. Best Buy isn't a well known store either. Its not a Wal-Mart where most consumers go. Its a small niche type store for electronics and goods . In all...Best Buy is a small electronics store that tried to do its 1st real big exclusive album and it didn't work as good. Wal-Mart had the experince and know how to sell albums and cut bulk deals...where a Best Buy wouldn;t.

People dont go to Wal-Mart to buy cds. Unless they live in the middle of nowhere where the only place to buy things IS WalMart.   Plenty of people go to Best Buy for music exclusively. Now especially because of all the record store closures. Best Buy's music dept is huge. Walmart's, well, isnt. And bringing up how many Best Buy stores there are in comparison to Wal Marts...well, anyone with a computer and internet access has a Best Buy.

More people shop in walmart than best buy. And they also have a website. it's 2009 i think all major retail stores have websites.

So during the holiday shopping season everyone went to walmart and saw the acde promotion while gnr fans that knew the release went to bb where they would otherwise not have been to. i don't think it worked poorly for bb.

I don't buy cd's at Walmart. They won't sell them as is. Meaning no curse words or anything, you don't get the full song. Granted acdc did fantastic with there release but i think gnr did a good job. We should be happy that anyone bought it in the first place. WOuld it have been better if they released it normally. Target, Fye, Walmart, And local cd selling stores. Most likely, but then again when has axl ever done anything that is normal. I really don't care how many people buy the album anyways. As long as i have it I really don't care. Yeah it's good to see it do well which it has is good but i only but for me.

I still think in a lot of ways Axl didn't want to promote this album. I have kept a theory about maybe he was so unhappy with the label, maybe he is protesting it by not doing much

Look at U2, they are going to be on Letterman ALL week.

Hell even Duff has no record label and is managing to do probably 50 radio interviews for his band Loaded.

So although I did entertain that the lack of label support had a lot to do with it, That still really isn't an excuse for Axl's seemingly lack of interest up to this point.

that being said, 540k copies all things considered definitely isn't as catastrophic when viewed under the proper context.

i can't wait to see how the charts are flipped upside down when the video for better is finally released.  the world's forgotten what it's like to see an axl rose video.  once tehy're reminded, this album will finally get it's deserved attention.

Yeah but the single has already fell off the charts though, so maybe it can be re released with the video but you have to wonder how much longer they can wait.

That would be nice to see.  MTV is reporting that the album sold approx. 4,000 with a chart position of 137.

I am thinking around 550k to 560k somewhere through there.

I mean if u look at the fact that the best selling did 3 million......... I Mean 550k for a rock record under the circumstances and the fact neither single really crossed over and struck lightning, that really isn't bad.

I know that I suffered from increased expectation. Especially after i saw the Death Magnetic and Black Ice numbers and how the dude in Best Buy talked about how many people were in there at opening to buy it.
