CD or Vinyl....and other plans for your first listen
«

I am buying the album Sunday morning, heading straight to my dad?s house, and listening to the album on vinyl on the same record player that I listened to AFD almost 21 years ago. It was a tough call deciding on vinyl, and I?m a little worried that some aspects of songs will be lost.
I?m inviting a few friends and family over as well so we should have a good 4-7 people. I?m hoping I can resist the urge to listen to it in my car, and avoid listening to the songs I have not heard yet. I think many agree that albums need to be listed to in their entirety to fully appreciate them, and that?s what I plan to do. So I?ll hear all ?new? songs within the context of the album overall.
Just curious if anyone else has given thought and/or made plans for their first listen of Chinese Democracy.
Anyone else planning to go vinyl?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who already mapped out an elaborate listening plan. In fact, my elaborate plan isn't so elaborate--just listening to it with the wife (on CD--we don't have a record player) and then probably settling down with a good pair of headphones for a closer second inspection. Pitman sold me on the virtues of vinyl, but I couldn't buy a record player for one album. I just couldn't.

I'm bringing my girl with me to buy it, being that the lines may be long when the doors open and if I got her to talk to it would eliminate all the embarrasment of queing to get an album. I can't fucking go through that alone, even if it is Guns N' Roses. Not because I'm ashamed to buy it, on the contrary, but because I would feel like a stupid sheep in such a situation. If I got her there with me, at least I can do something other than stare into the fat neck of the guy infront of me, waiting in line like starved kittens...

Besides it's nice to have someone you love there with you to share the moment you've been waiting for half your life!

I have pre-ordered one cd and three vinyl online and and pre-ordered one cd in-store. I have taken the day off and I'm free from work the day after. So I'm gonna go out as soon as stores are open and first pick up my mailorder, go downtown in my Chinese democracy longsleeve tour shirt and collect my store booking. After that I'll go to the liqourstore (systembolaget) and buy champange and Jack Daniels. Then just go home, put the vinyl on and blast away and drink and laugh and cry (when I'm drunk)
I need three vinyls because I'm gonna play one, and one to keep and never open and one to give to my girlfriend for christmas, gonna have to buy her a vinylplayer oh well

But I'm a CD person. No record player

I plan on listening to every GNR album all the way through and watching "Welcome to the Videos" and The toyko DVD's in their entirety in the hours leading up to the album release...then going to the store, buying it, and listening to it nonstop...

Yeah, I pre-ordered the vinyl too.
It might not be the most mobile format to take with you, but it does look and sound nice!

Blasting GNR in the Best Buy parking lot with my bro-in-law before the store opens at 9.
Picking up my pre-ordered vinyl and cd's.
Bro-in-law will be lasting it in the truck on the way to where I work.
Run in and get one to a buddy of mine at work. (he works weekends)
Get back in the truck and demand my bro-in-law goes back to the point I left off on.
Get back to my house and pop it into the stereo.
Listen, enjoy, repeat!!!
NFL football with CD in the background all day long!
Jack Bauer's back on 24: Redemption, that night on Fox.
Redemption. How fucking appropriate for Axl's return, eh?

I'll be purchasing CD copies only, as the LP won't fit in my childhood Mickey Mouse record player (it's really only made for singles).
A buddy and I are going to Best Buy to pick it up, then back to my place for brew and cigars in the garage while listening.
After we're done, we're putting on our white sneakers and matching jogging outfits and offing ourselves near a copy of our manifesto that lays out exactly how the coming of Chinese Democracy was foretold by ancient prophets as the key to mankind's salvation and the way into a glorious afterlife.
Good times.

You and I would get along quite well. GN'R, the NFL, and 24 are three of my biggest obsessions.
And the fact that GN'R and 24 return on the same day kills me. When I heard CD's release got moved from the 25th to the 23rd, the same day as 24's 2-hour TV movie, I almost lost it.
