Slash praises Guns N' Roses album

4 November 2008

By Damian Jones
Newsbeat reporter

Slash has said he is pleased that Guns N' Roses' long awaited album is finally going to see the light of day.

Chinese Democracy, which has been over a decade in the making, will be available in record stores on 24 November.

The Velvet Revolver guitarist said: "I'm glad it's finally coming out after all this time. It's good to hear Axl's voice again. That's what's cool.

"But I'm not in the band and I haven't had any input into the record."

Asked whether there is any chance of the band getting back together in the future, he added: "You know what everybody asks the same question. But how the f*** would I know?"

Their last record was the covers collection The Spaghetti Incident? which came out in 1993.

New singer

The ex-Guns N' Roses star said he was currently pressing on with finding a new singer for his current band after former Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland quit earlier this year.

"We're trying to find a singer for Velvet Revolver still," he said.

"We've got a lot of really good ones but I don't know if we've found the guy yet but it's plodding along and I'm trying to get that together."

Slash said he is also continuing work on his solo album and he has recorded a cover version of a piece by classical composer Rachmaninov for an upcoming tribute album to Gibson guitar maker Les Paul.

He also confirmed that he has just finished recording a track with Cypress Hill.

The guitarist added: "It was great, I love those guys. I've played with them a lot and we just did this one song on their new record and it's really cool."

With the US elections set to get under way later, Slash said he hopes Barack Obama is the right man for the job.

He added: "He hasn't answered all the questions but I'm hoping he's the right guy because (John) McCain gives me nightmares."

They keep fucking asking and then reporting his responce, its quite straightforward.

It shows how much regard the interviewer had for the band by giving the title : "Slash praises Guns N' Roses album", going on to say, "Slash has said he is pleased that Guns N' Roses' long awaited album is finally going to see the light of day".

But then asking "whether there is any chance of the band getting back together in the future"!!  rofl

Theres a bit of a mixed message there.

My friend your in denial.  I'm not going to take part in this argument that has been brought up
countless times but to say the band never broke up is not accurate.  I must admit, the NEW band
leaves me empty.  The hired musicians are very good but the new sound that Axl is going for
doesn?t suit me and that's fine he or the band owes me nothing.  But I would like to hear Slashes
guitar behind Axls' vocals again.  But I swear I would die a happy man if I never heard that
question asked again.  I think Slashes response reflects similar feelings.  The media needs to
move on as much as the original band mates  have.

Doesn't sound good for VR though does it?  I hope Slash has got his shit together for this solo
album it could be so great and yet it could be so mediocre.....kind of like that Star Spangled
Banner the other night.  Sheesh he played every note without any embellishment?

...No, he's 100% right.
The band never broke up. Some people quit, some people were fired, but there was always a band, and they were always replaced.

I agree,

I would probably cry happy tears for a week or two, but I'd be too scared to see what'd happen after the first few gigs or the first reunion album. I want to remember them the way they were in the early 1990s.

So if a man and woman are married, but the man is replaced by another man it's still the very same marriage? Tongue

At what point do the 'broke up' people consider the band 'broken up'?  Did GnR break up when Steven left? Izzy? Slash?  Duff?  Matt, who was a replacement?  You see, comparing a band to marriage is oranges vs. apples (unless you are comparing the tension/personality dynamic) a marriage is a Duo.  Would country act Big n' Rich still be Big n' Rich if John Rich left? No.  A band is more like a bus...people get on, people get off...its still the same bus.  Many a band have dragged their name down the toilet by replacing key members at some point (Aerosmith for one)...but they were still the band.  GnR is GnR...it would be nice to see former members kiss and make up, do a couple walk ons maybe, but GnR is whomever is in the band today.
