I'd rather GNR wouldn't be put into a pigeon-hole.
True.
But it's funny how different it sounds among all those flavor of the week pop acts!
The track definitely stands out even more then compared to being played on a rock station.

What kind of radio station was it?
Rock?
I remember when they played the single on our national radio station. It was weird, in between all the pop crap they'd play CD.
/jarmo
it's a classic ''rock and pop'' radio, more pop than rock in this case. They play mainstream hits, some classics and nothing else.
I know I might be sick, but when I hear tracks from CD at the radio, TV or other people's car I immediatly change my mood, and I can spend the rest of the day with a big smile on my face.
And yes, CD sounds even better, stronger, in between the crappy pop music radio stations use to play.

I really like this track live, but it's still my least favorite from the album itself.

I love the track and it's better than ever live. I really got frustrated when some dickhead forced it to stop when he threw shit on Axl here in S?o Paulo, it was so anti-climax.

It's great to look back and see just how this song has grown since it was first played live. Needless to say it had more of an industrial feel back then, but I think on the album, it sounds the best it ever has.
If people look back to the Rock In Rio 2001 performance, the song doesn't even feature Bucketheads' solo. After Robins solo, the song kicks back into the chorus.
So I think, this song is a great example of how a song can be improved greatly, by letting it sit for a while. And then by experimenting with different ideas, becomes a much more rounded and fuller song.

does anyone know what dizzy and stinson are singin during the last verse in the song ?
"you think you got it all locked up inside " verse that aint in the booklet.
anyways ,about 3/4 in to each line except for one . dizzy and tommy keep repeating something but im not sure what t is
anyone know ?
That's an easy one. They sing: "It don't really matter".
Changing subject, there's something bizarre on 0:34. You can clearly hear some guy saying in portuguese: "filha da puta, v?i!", which means "son of a bitch, man!"
I think that's Fernando's voice.
Because of that I realized the beginning of the song (all those whispers) means some kind of conspiration, like starting a revolution against an oppressor. And just like the hole album you can see that as China's authoritarian government or some person/people. Axl is a genius!
shit ! I don't know any portuguese .. but I do know a bit of spanish and I knew I fuckin heard puta hahaha

In my opinion this is the strongest song in the album! The song in the album is perfect but i also love the alternate version from the antiquiet leaks.
Its hard to pick one, as the other one is really well produced as well, i definitely prefer the album version though, its more modern and i love the guitar effects in it!

Love th song. Sounds brilliant live - its just a fucking shame that some asshole ruined it here in Sao Paulo when he threw a bottle at Axl.

I was listening to NFL Radio on Sirius today. Actually I had taped a program from Saturday from New England Patriots training camp. Anyhow, going into a break they used the opening chords of "Chinese Democracy" as a bumper. Granted it was only for 5 seconds or less, but it was still cool to hear a GNR song in a sports setting that wasn't WTTJ or PC.

This track has become my favourite Guns N' Roses song ever.
I just love the industrial tinged music, and also powerful message. I think this track is the perfect opener for GN'R, and I was one of the ones who wasn't sure about switching from Jungle.
But
with the video screens and big production, I don't see another song that can match this in terms of epicness.
Also a poster said above, that he noticed one of the voices say "Son of a bitch, man". But I'm interested in what all of the voices say in the intro, I'm sure someone has tried to post the translations at one time or another.
But yeah, this song rocks. And my favourite part is Robin's and Bucket's duel solo, sounds absolutely amazing, and both of those solos are perfect for this song.

i actually thought the song was at it's best in the early stages, tommy's bassline is fucking badass in CD, but it's completely covered up in the 2008 version and pretty unnoticeable. CD went from being my favorite song out of the songs they played in Rio 01 to one of my least favorite tracks on CD.

I hear what your saying, and I did actually have the same opinion than you, a few years ago. I loved the version the band played at Rock In Rio 2001, as it was more industrial tinged, and it had a slower vibe.
But
in saying that, my opinion has changed and I just absolutely love the finished album version the best. I have actually stated in this thread, that my favourite GN'R song ever is now this song, due to it's message, and epic duel solos by Robin and Bucket.
I love Rons fretless under the track, and really do feel that the best version of Chinese Democracy, did actually manage to find it's way onto the CD.
