One of my favorite things about "Chinese Democracy" is the cool ass intro. I love the slow build-up, the voices, the sounds . . . by the time that badass guitar hits, I'm pumped. But both times I've heard the song on the radio today, the stupid DJs have talked all over it. They don't shut up until just before the "it don't really matter" line comes in. Any one else having to deal with this same annoying problem from DJs?

I think it could do with a radio edit, though. The build-up works well as the album opener, less so on daytime radio with a DJ chatting over it. We may all be sick of that intro by the time we have the album in our hands. It would have been better to abridge it for radio promos, both in terms of its function as a single and its impact when listening to the album. Unless, of course, it is a radio edit!

I also am starting to think that the song doesn't have "the hook" but rather the whole song kind of grabs you, but it takes a few listens to really dig.

I can compare this song to SCOM in a way.

The first time I heard SCOM, I fucking hated it. I mean seriously, I thought it was just brutally bad. *I was only 9 by the way so give me a break*

anyhow, After I heard it about 3 times, I loved it and haven't stopped in 20 years.

This is like CD. People hearing it the first time may hate it initially, but the more they hear it, the more it is going to grab them.

I can't think of many songs to be honest that I loved first listen. I wasn't even crazy about Estranged the first few times I heard it.

So unless its straight up candy pop music, its hard to get something on the first listen.

Also, did Axl change the lyrics in the last part of the song? they sound different than the live versions.

Review in Aftenposten (Norwegian newspaper): http://oslopuls.aftenposten.no/musikk/article91270.ece

It gets 4/6, the reviewer is impressed: he says it's not very original or innovative, but when it reminds of such a good album as AFD, lack of originality is not a problem. "'It don't really matter', as Axl sings".

And: "With all the recent hype surrounding Metallica and AC/DC, maybe there's room for yet another aggressive dinosaur?"

All in all, not bad.

hihi I skipped over SCOM for about ten years before I finally fell in love with it. Couldn't understand how it was their most popular song.

Use this code to embed the Imeem flash streamer on as many webpages as you can! (blogs etc.)

Code:
<embed src="http://media.imeem.com/m/RwKXifSbdC/aus=false/" width="300" height="110" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"></embed>

It will look just as on the Geffen page: http://www.geffen.com/artist/player/default.aspx/mid/4565/aid/149

As it counts accumulative plays, it's currently right under 200,000 plays. How fast will it reach the first million? A nice way to measure the track's popularity  ok

The second to last line was changed from "if your ass was your head you could tell" to "while they all reach out for your help"

Can someone post the full CORRECT CD lyrics?

I'm not sure if these are fully correct, but it's what I've been hearing.

Chinese Democracy

It don?t really matter
Gonna find out for yourself
No, it don't really matter  (oooh)
Gonna leave this thing to
Somebody else

If they were missionaries
Real time visionaries
Sitting in a Chinese stew
To view my dis-infatu-ation
I know that I'm a classic case
Watch my disenchanted face
Blame it on the Falun Gong
They see the end and you can't hold on now

Cause it would take a lot more hate than you
To end the fascination
Even with an iron fist
More than you got to rule the nation
When all I got is precious time

It don't really matter
Guess Ill keep it to myself.
Said it don't really matter
It's time I look around for
Somebody else

Cause it would take a lot more time than you
Have got for masturbation
Even with your iron fist
More than you got to rule the nation
When all we got is precious time
More than you got to fool a nation
When all I got is precious time

(solo)

It don't really matter
I guess you'll find out for yourself
No it don't really matter
So you can hear it now from somebody else

You think you got it all locked up inside
And if you feed them enough they?ll die
It's like a walk in the park from a cell
Now you're keeping your own kind in hell
When your great wall rots
Blame yourself.
While they all reach out for your help
And you?re outta time

I'm not 100% sure, but those lyrics seem correct.

Axl has never let us down with his writing.

Never...

Those are some very powerful lyrics

The last block there is amazing.

Im glad he changed the next to  last line. It gives the song so much more visually with the Wall rotting down and people reaching out for help but its over out of time.

^ yea i was so pumped on the 06 tour when he changed the last couple lines. I think the last verse is now great  " while there arms reach out for your help"

1 question though is the second to last line " while there arms reach out for your help" or ?"while they all reach out for your help" I always though it was arms but im not positive?

Sorry if this has already been posted, but 'Chin Dem' was played tonight on Radio 2 in the UK. It was on Chris Evans show in the 'hit or miss' game (where listeners contact the station and vote).......the result......and i qoute "in a bumper textbag, it was a volcanic hit, you think it is brilliant." So most listeners liked the song!!

On a side note, Chris Evans thought the song 'Chin Dem' would be a better Bond theme than the actual bond theme!

If anyone wants to listen - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00f0z6j  The song is played at 1 hour and 26mins, the result from listeners (you hear various comments, good, bad..etc) is at 1 hour 39 mins.

But would such a rocker type song fit as the Bond theme?
