I think a rock song needs to be released before a ballad. I would have to say Better.

Out of what we know, 'Better' is the obvious choice. It appeals to a mass audience. For selfish reasons, I'm wanting it to be 'Scraped' or 'Sorry', something we haven't heard, but I'd be tickled pink with 'Better'. I think 'Madagascar' deserves to be the second single, though...

Scraped... because is a song we never hear before n' was registered in that site n' also was named in the article of the Rolling Stones... but that just speculation (I don't even know if is a rocker or a ballad)

From the songs we've heard I think the first single needs to be a powerful rocker song n' second one a great beautiful ballad... n' my votes are 1? Better n' 2? Catcher

Put me down for "Better" as well.

They must be aware of the positive attention it has received on the internet (chat boards, youtube, etc.) and in Rolling Stone magazine (when they reviewed the leaks). I just think it's one of those things where they don't want to spend the rest of their lives thinking... "Hmmm.... I wonder if it would have turned out differently if we had led off with 'Better'". That's certainly how I would look at it. The first single needs to be a punch to the jaw of the music industry... "Better" is that IMHO.

If they are releasing a single, you would think they would be shooting the video for it now.

Yeah, I'd agree too. I'm also pretty sure that after I buy the album, I'm not going to play it from the start and listen to a mastered Chinese Democracy tune, but rather that I'm going to listen to Sorry - and I mean  immediately

Madagascar has still been going strong for almost 8 years now and I can honestly say, I have never grown tired of it at any point.

It still gives me chills today like it did when I heard it at Rock In Rio 3.

I honestly can say it has been my favorite of all the songs we've heard.

I like 'Better'...however, I've always felt that it's lacking just a bit. It's got some great musical and vocal hooks, but I really don't get into the chorus as much as I do with other hit GN'R singles. 'Better' reminds me more of  'Dead Horse'...great song, I really dig it, but pale in comparrison to other singles.  YCBM was and is far better IMO and rightly deserved to be the front runner single off the Illusion albums. Like 'Dead Horse', 'Better' could serve as a good third or fourth single (if we get that many) and help maintain CD's momentum until the next album is released...but I just don't see it as THE SONG to reintroduce this band to the world with.

I personally hope this new song, 'Scraped' is a killer rocker and is the first single. Though I don't like some of the 'noise' in 'Shackler's Revenge', I think the chorus is killer and if 'Scraped' was saved from public knowledge all this time (like 'Shackler'), perhaps it's got some of the same balls to it.

Here's my prediction (or, perhaps hope) for the order of single releases:

1. Scraped
2. This I Love
3. Madagascar (or Catcher)
4. Better
5. There Was a Time

That's over a year's worth of singles...hopefully CD: pt. 2 will be ready for release when this has run it's course.



Oh...and last thought to all those who are dissapointed in the tracklisting because you've heard (or think you have heard) 2/3 or it. I'd be willing to bet that on the next tour you're going to start hearing a few more tunes from the next two albums worth of material...so fear not...the avalanche has only begun

I think Catcher is an amazing song, I cannot wait to hear what a studio finished version will sound like.  I wonder if Brian May will stay on it or if Axl has replaced it?

It has to be Better, and I hope it's exactly the same as the demo. Then again, it could be one of the three we haven't heard.  Though it's hard to imagine anything being better than "Better".
