What are the advantages of pre-ordering?  I mean, I'm not expecting the stores to sell out of the album.  I expect to be able to pick up a copy on the initial day of its release.  I mean, it'd be a fantastic sign for sales if that wasn't the case but I would have to imagine they'd have plenty on hand to sell through.  So do you get anything extra for pre-ordering?  I've never pre-ordered anything.  Anyone have any ideas?

All it will do is reserve a copy of the cd for you. Thats it. If you dont anticipate the album being sold-out, than at this point there is no incentive to pre-order and you dont need too.

No benefit for CD's unless they are a special package.  I did the stone sour limited edition deal pre-order but it came with a autographed postcard that was actually signed by the band not just a scan.

Half the fun is walking to the shelf, seeing the mass of CD and picking which one u want.

Couldn't agree with you more D, waiting all this time for the record of a generation and you just want it to show up in the mail, like a publishers clearing house catalog or cheap coupons? Hell if you are close enough to a Best Buy don't you want to see the excite in others eyes over seeing CD. Don't you want to see the massive end cap display promoting GNR? Many of us have said we dont believe it until we see it in  a store and hold it in our hands.  I cant say I will be waiting in line for it, as i might be working, but I will definetly be getting it opening day and I wouldn't mind getting there an hour or 2 afterwards to see how nice their display looks after HUNGRY GnR Fans ramsacked it. Thats a sight worth seeing. Seeing CD in Stores, in my Hands, and a destoryed shelf where cds were once nicely stacked.

Well I just pre-ordered mine for store pick-up.  I have to say confirming my order for Chinese Democracy was a little surreal.

I am going to buy more than one so I will get the rest at the store.

I missed the first pre-order and don't want to again.

I don't think that's been established.  Apparently they have done midnight sales for BIG releases, so it's possible.  That would be cool.  I'd have to curtail my drinking on a Saturday night a little for that one.
