GNR For Fucking Ever

« Reply #520 on: October 06, 2008, 08:19:49 PM »

Cornell solo stuff sucks except for the casino royale theme song.  He kicked ass in soundgarden and Audioslave's first album kicked so much ass a perfect mix between rage and sound then the second and most of the third albums just sounded like his solo crap.  Scott has sucked for sometime now, no originality.  It was funny they stp last album sucked then the extra two songs they made for the greatest hits kicked ass yet he was already gone and in that crap band he was in after that.  I'm guessing his solo album will be real stripped down acoustics and not be so good.  Kanye will bring no competition to GNR, he will not out sell them but he will try and tell everyone he is going to.  The killers will be a competitor as far as first week albums sells, killers are huge with the youth and they do have the potential to become pretty good someday.  GNR will come out the best though easily!  November 28th I think

For all those going on about how much this artist sucks and how much that artist sucks please remember: quality has nothing to do with success in the music industry.

Well, Cornell and Weiland's previous solo efforts didn't sell shit so I don't see any reason to believe their new ones will

Right. Then there's The Killers and Kayne West to worry about.

Both of whom will sell many, many copies.

Kanye West To Take On The Killers In November
Hilary Lewis | Oct 6, 2008 5:40 PM

Over the past few months, the major record labels have announced a number of high-profile album releases for the end of the year, no doubt in an effort to boost fourth-quarter revenues. One previously dormant act who lately began prepping an end-of-the-year release is Kanye West. But while Kanye blogged two weeks ago that his album, 808s and Heartbreak would be coming out "November something," he didn't provide a specific release date.

Today, we learn that his new album will be released on November 25, pitting him against fellow Island Def Jam act The Killers, who release their third album the same day. While you might think Kanye and The Killers attract different fanbases, we think plenty of people would want to buy both discs.

Meanwhile, this album puts Universal in the dominant position for holiday releases with new discs set to hit shelves from Jay-Z, Kanye, The Killers, 50 Cent and Guns N' Roses.

I don't believe there's a reason...

« Reply #526 on: October 07, 2008, 12:55:38 AM »

Talking Metal guys said that UNOFFICIALLY the release date is 25th November - it'll not be official until the managers confirm it. They've asked a manager at Best buy in New Jersey and he apparently confirmed the release date.

The New Jersey Best Buy management confirmed 11/25 as the official release date, following that up by saying the announcement would NOT come from Best Buy, but from the label or the band.  GREAT NEWS FOLKS!!!

Both Akon and Ludacris are scheduled for the 25th also. And the week after is JayZ and the week after that is 50 cent. GNR needs to release CD before the 25th.

Yep.  Because when I go in to buy Chi Dem, and I see that JayZ disc there too, I'll be in a real quandary.

ye know what, im pretty sure releasing Chinese Democracy around the same time as albums like Akons, Ludacris, Jay Z an 50 Cent wont harm the sales but help em. think of all the poeple goin to the stores (if thats what they do these days) to buy their albums when they see "A NEW GUNS N ROSES ALBUM" there. even RAP fans will be tempted

Maybe not for you and me. But you've got to remember that there's a ton of Jay-Z, Killers, etc fans that feel the same way about GNR.

That's not where the issue lies, the problem is that CD will be competing with these other albums in terms of music magazine coverage, news attention etc.

If Metal Hammer picks JayZ over Axl Rose for their cover shot, I'll be cancelling my subscription.

Sure there might be some overlap in the more generic media, but that's unavoidable.   Suggesting that GNR release Chi Dem during a time when there are NO other releases, even those in a different stream of music, is offensive to GNR in my opinion.

I don't think that's gonna be much of an issue.

In fact, I think the worry would come from the OTHER artists.  Let's face it, CD is almost mythical in stature amongst the music industry.  It's release is more likely the "headline stealer" and not vice versa.

Jay-Z, Ludacris, Akon and 50-Cent? Are you guys serious? Nothing short of the second coming of Jesus Christ would be enough to steal CD's thunder and you guys are worrying about these clowns. DON'T!
