       2.  The band would want proof that the record is getting its justice.

No doubt there would be volume commitments imposed by the label and the unit costs to be considered.   For Best Buy, it becomes a risk assessment exercise.  In order to get any exclusive deal they would most likely have to commit to purchasing x units and $y each.   They would have to be confident of selling z units in order to re-coup their costs of the CDs and the other cost of sale related items (promotion etc.).

For example - the label says that Best Buy can buy 100,000 units and get them for $13 each.   BB want to sell the units for $15 each.   If they're confident that they can sell all 100,000 units then there is little risk, but if they only sell 80,000 units then they have a total gross cost of $1,300,000 and revenue on that of $1,200,000.   This is before the other advertising costs etc. are taken into consideration.   The label wants to ship as many as possible, Best Buy want to be sure that they can sell all of the CDs, especially if there are no returns.

I think it's reasonable to believe that an agreement has been reached to have Best Buy be the exclusive retailer of the album in the US.  But, the details are still being worked out, like a release date.  In other words, there is an agreement without all the specifics being finalized.  Otherwise, why play the songs at the Media Kickoff Event for Best Buy?

It's also possible that they are part way through negotiations but have signed an LOI or MOU to enable Best Buy to inform their employees that it's planned.

Which would also explain why it has not been confirmed publicly.
