I found this on the "Countown to Chinese Democracy" Facebook group so take it for what its worth.

"Best Buy has it in their computer as 11/25/08. i saw it today when i went in cause i asked them to look it up when i heard it was in their system. there were 6 chinese democracy's listed by guns n roses, versions 1-3. the first set of version 1-3 was priced at $13.99 the second set was priced at $19.99"

This is a rumour going around a number of GNR forums. A few people who have called into different stores appear to have obtained similar information.

Apparently there MAY be three CD editions of the album, with alternate artwork, extra discs etc, and likewise three different VINYL versions of the album

Again this is all just rumour. Nothing confirmed.

I've seen this at Best Buy as well. The clerk showed me the listings in the system. There are three different SKU's for $13.99, and another three SKU's at $19.99. Definitely not a rumor, I saw it with my own eyes.

I tend to believe we're getting three CD's at the $13.99 price, and CD's with a bonus disc at the $19.99 price.

I may be in the minority in thinking Axl's going to drop three CD's of new material at once, but who would buy three discs if they all had the same content?

like i said above. having worked at bestbuy, you find multiple skus for items all the time. i think we are really looking at one album with a deluxe edition.

I am sticking to my guns (pun intended)....the manager I spoke with at Best Buy two weeks ago attended the convention....she said Chinese Democracy is going to be three discs.

i think that if this were true you wouldnt have originally said that you tended to beleive in three cds but that you in fact had confirmation of 3 cds, or atleast inside knowledge. i will go as far as to bet you a copy of cd that there will not be 3 albums.

It makes no sense to release all 3 now. People cannot/will not buy all 3 at once. That would drive down overall sales.

Nobody is saying people have to buy the discs all at once. I know people who bought UYI 2 before buying UYI 1, and vice versa.

Point is, this release is happening right before the biggest shopping weekend of the year. People will buy three CD's for Christmas gifts. If they buy one, they can pick up the other two at a later time.

I know what Jarmo has said about this not be true, but I gotta be honest, a lot of things point to it being the case.  I. E, Baz saying it's gonna be like 4 albums worth of material, the Chinese Democracy Versions 1-3 in the Best Buy RSS system, as well as your source who was at the Best Buy convention, on top of several other rumors we've heard saying that this is the case.

In the end, no one will know for sure until we, well, know.  An a official announcement sure would be swell at this point.

i think the story has always been "he's recorder, like, for albums worth of material', whenever an album is made bands always record a lot and then pick the best from the stack.

im will to think that if jarmo says its true, its got a lot of weight, and if mysteron says its true, its as good as gold.

also, id like to point out that this manager confirmation wasnt made until after i pushed the matter, and like i said, rss has multiple skus all the time. bestbuy has stores in other countries, ect. and these albums could feature their own product code.

your talking about an age before the internet. first few weeks of sales are very important and youll loose money from people that dont buy all three in one week.

i always figured that the 4 album talk meant that we would some day get chinese democracy, and then later on down the line get some other album with its own pretty title. like russian democracy, or american socialism (which isnt too far away, so he should hurry with that one).

The key part of your post is "at a later time." The band and label cannot afford to do anything to hurt first week sales because of what the press will imply correct or not.

And 1991 was a long time ago in the music world. The marketing style that worked then simply is not relevant anymore. The market has completely changed.

Different covers?  yes  Bonus materials? Perhaps Three distinct albums? No...There would have to be a separate SKU for the 3 disc set they would undoubtedly sell.  I know The Illusions were 2 separate releases, but in this case, if it were a 3 disc album, I guarantee Best Buy would have a price point for the set....It's ONE album.

The Smashing Pumpkins latest had 7 different album cover colors, one of which was a BB exclusive.

You would. And so would I, and many others here. But the average population's dollars would be split 3 ways, because they wouldn't. And we know the reports wouldn't say guns and roses sold x amount of albums, they'd say Cd sold x amount, with no mention of the other 2 discs.

That scenario would cause the band to look bad sales wise. They'd sell way more albums splitting the music up into three release dates at least 6 months, probably more, apart.

i know it's been brought up a while ago but what if it were a double sided cd with 20 songs, 10 on each side? would that make everyone happy or would we still have people pissed off at the band for not having art on the cd?

All best buys have the same SKUs and the same release date in the system, which have already been posted. Anything else someone from Best Buy is telling you is bull, just passing on some rumor they heard, or some rumor their manager heard and passed onto them as fact. Whats the point in calling? EVERYTHING is ALWAYS subject to change, and when the band wants to release the info, you will hear it, and it will be correct.

and then there is the album, three different album covers, and a bonus  cd or dvd for $19.99
