Best Buy Snags Guns N' Roses Album Exclusive

Best Buy will be the exclusive retailer for Guns N' Roses decade-plus-in-the-making new album "Chinese Democracy" before year's end, sources close to the situation tell Billboard. Some details of the deal are still being worked out, including the release date.

The news brings a semblance of closure to the bizarre history of "Democracy," which Guns N' Roses has been working on since the mid-1990s. Since then, every original member of the once mighty group has left besides vocalist Axl Rose, and millions of dollars have been spent working on the new material.

"Democracy" was most recently on the Interscope release schedule in March 2007. The endless delays encountered by the project reached comic levels this spring, when soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.

In June, nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from the album were leaked online, prompting an FBI investigation into their source. A sign "Chinese Democracy" was perhaps finally nearing release came in July, when the band agreed to debut new track "Shackler's Revenge" in the video game "Rock Band 2," which hit stores earlier this month.

Guns N' Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart in 2007, much to the chagrin of other merchants, but the album was a runaway hit, having sold 3.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The new Guns N' Roses album is set to come out in November, it has been claimed.
The forever delayed LP, which has been in the pipeline for nearly 15 years, has now been linked with an exclusive retail deal.
Apparently US chain Best Buy met with the group's manager Andy Gould this week, where employees were played three new tracks.
According to reports, the album will be sold through the stores, commencing on November 25.
There is also unconfirmed news that one of the new Axl Rose tracks, "If The World", will feature in a forthcoming Leonardo DiCaprio movie, "Body Of Lies".

Guns N' Roses. Chinese Democracy. November release. Could it be? If all indications are correct, the answer is a firm "yes." And you can mark November 25 as the date to remember on your calender.

According to reports, Chinese Democracy, which has been in production for over 14 years, at a cost of umpteen millions dollars, will be available exclusively in the US at Best Buy stores.
It is said that the band's co-manager, Andy Gould (he manages the group with Irving Azoff), informed 900 employeesof the retail giant at a vendor convention in Dallas, Texas of the imminent release - and then played them three songs from the record.
Gould is also reported to have told executives at Best Buy that a new song, If The World, will be featured in the closing credits of the forthcoming movie, Body of Lies, which stars Russell Crowe and Leonardo DeCaprio.
In US politics, we have what's known as the "October surprise" - stunning news that turns an election on its head. Guns N' Roses long awaited studio album 'Chinese Democracy' will be released on November 25th, according to new reports.
The album, which has been in production for over 14 years, will be available exclusively in Best Buy stores.
According to internet reports, the band's manager, Andy Gould, informed 900 employees at the retail store this week, before playing them three songs from the record.

'Chinese Democracy' is understood to have cost frontman Axl Rose $2milllion to make.
In June, a number of songs, purported to be finished edits, appeared on an internet blog.
27-year-old Kevin Cogill, who uploaded the tracks, was arrested in August on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws.
Prosecutors claim he could have caused a "significant" profit loss for the band. Cogill has since appealed for donations to his defence fund. Earlier this year, drinks company Dr Pepper promised each American citizen a free drink if the band released the album before the end of 2008. Fans will get to hear the first official song from the album, 'Shackler's Revenge', on the video game Rock Band 2 next month.

I know that CD is exclusive to Best Buy in the USA.  I was wondering if CD will be released in Canada.  I know there is Best Buys in Canada in some major cities but no where even close to me, i believe the closest would be a 25 hour drive.  So if it is exclusive to Best Buy USA, will it be available at any major electronic/music stores in Canada other than Best Buy like Future Shop andf etc.

In other words, will i be able to buy CD in Canada when it is released.
