I particularly like this PC from the 1800's though the video card may not be able to handle the latest games!

Well that RAM is still in my computer, as I said I'm running it now, just looking to make improvements to it and make it better for the future.

I have THIS CASE but was thinking about possibly moving to THIS NEW CASE. That doesn't include a power supply though, which would cost me a bunch more.

Not a definite but just some ideas going through my head of what to and what not to improve upon.

If you are keeping the RAM, you can't go for that motherboard and processor. You will have to stick with the Q9650 or Q8xxx series of processors or
go for an AMD platform which has the nice feature that the CPU can run with either DDR2 or DDR3. It's better to get a good 600W-800W power supply
which will be able to handle all your future cards and other peripherals.

I still say if you are going to spend so much upgrading your system, it would be better to sell your existing DDR2 RAM and get a new platform
with DDR3. A good DDR3 4GB dual kit will cost you less than $70.

Anyone recommend a nice video card? Finally am upgrading my whole system for myself for Christmas so I'm not really holding back. Max $250 for the video card though if possible.

Got a i7 processor with a ASUS motherboard, 1000w power supply, some ram and such.

Just need the final piece!

Go for the AMD 5850. It's the latest and retails for about $260. The problem is getting one for that price, since the demand is crazy right now and there aren't enough cards. If you can't find one for that price, go for the equivalent nVidia GTX 285. The 5850 is strongly recommended if you can get it though. Also, be sure to check your case and PSU for compatibility.

Can only find the AMD 5850 for around $300, whether on eBay or TigerDirect/NewEgg etc....I really like it though how it has an HDMI input. Will help with an additional monitor/TV if I ever need it.

Is this an acceptable motherboard & power supply to work with that?

I'm running i5 instead of i7 as well, a little cheaper but still good. My budget was around $850 for everything, but building it for aroudn $1200 isn't bad, an extra $350 won't kill me.

Looks good, although a 1100W PSU is probably overkill. That's just going to increase your power bill and will be noisy. I've not heard of Xion either, so don't know how good it is. 850W should be more than enough for anything you might want to connect later on.
