"Right next Door To Hell has great lyrics? "

Yes it does....What I like about them is how they are autobiographical to a point..Like much of AFD..I believe RND2H is in reference to Axl's former condo neighbor and stardom..
Here are a few of the great lines:But when your innocence dies
You'll find the blues
Seems all our heroes were born to lose
Just walkin' through time
You believe this heat
Another empty house another dead end street
Gonna rest my bones an sit for a spell
This side of heaven this close to Hell

But times are hard and thrills are cheaper
As your arms get shorter
Your pockets get deeper

So much out there
Still so much to see
Time's too much to handle
Time's too much for me
It drives me up the walls
Drives me out of my mind
Can you tell me what this means...huh?

It's a very under rated and forgotten song..

"Ain't It Fun"

« Reply #383 on: February 11, 2009, 09:48:24 AM »

If the song really is that deep, doesn't it make you wish he hit that nail on the head a bit better?

like bono would? nope,
the song is perfect as it is. No no there's no more to say, the music is already beautifully eloquent.
the lyrics are nicely refined. the vocals are singnficant. If they were verbose they wouldn't give the lingering imagery as they do.
the imagery of the rondo of planets and the infinite silence of the universe.

What lingering imagery? It doesn't say any of that anywhere.

-facepalm-    are you a troll, or just ig'nant?

-ball punch-  niether I just hate crappy lyrics.

I'm sorry If the World is not enough for you lyrically.
Its meant to be a catchy upbeat love song.

I find it personally refreshing. Its better to just enjoy a song sometimes than pick Axl's brain in his lyric writing (which I'm as guilty as everybody else on this board sometimes). Its even got that elevator music sound in the song, so it fits in everywhere at any time.

I still think it goes best with the end of Fight Club.

I was watching my BODY OF LIES DVD today and it hit me. IF THE WORLD should have been nominated for an Academy Award along with Bruce Sprinsteen's song from THE WRESTLER. Why did they only have 3 songs in the category this year? I'm not too impressed with the songs that they did nominate.

Was that Springsteen song on the movie soundtrack?  Not sure if that's a requirement, but If The World wasn't on the soundtrack, only played during the credits, and not even in full.

I can't enjoy this song anymore after I started to think those little electronic sound effects or whatever is playing in the backround sounded like someone farting.

Huh?   nervous

Okay, moving on. It occured to me that Axl might be singing to all of us. When I say all of us, I mean the ones who are his true fans who have stuck by him through all the fucking shit, and continue to dig the fuck out of him and his music.

We are the "They" and the "You" is each one of us fans.

... or maybe I just had a little too much medicine before listening today.

I think that's also an apt approach to the song  yes for we're in the GNR world of love and dreams.

To me it's a very sexual song with an Arabic sound to it and it's like travelling into a tent in the sahara...

It's actually a great film too if anyone hasn't seen it already.

I watched a DVD of it recently and got excited all over again hearing the song at the end.

The Arabic guitars show me a scenery of a boundless barren land and a lonely moon. Guess I'm not sexy.
