just came back from "body of lies". like others have said, the movie is ok, but not a must see...

well, "if the world"... it fits the film perfectly. they have the song played from the intro to the end of the first real chorus (not just the intro chorus). sound was very, very good. only thing i still have to get used to, is the fact that axl's vocals seemed pretty shrill at the beginning. the verses rocked and axl sounded super-fine here! man, the guitar is heavy! much better and more energetic than in the leak (nothing much has changed though during that 2 minutes i heard; i guess it's just the mixing and mastering...). not really worried about "if the world" anymore. this album will probably blend lots of different musical elements together in a cool way.

I enjoyed the movie. sorry for those that didn't. the song sounded great. TWAT would've been a better choice IMO.

Good review.  Does that guy really think that's the whole song though, 90 seconds?  I can just imagine the backlash, "It took Axl 15 years to make a 90 second song?"  Just enough to wet your appetite.

In the article he mentions that the song would fit more a James Bond movie.  Maybe, but I.R.S. would be just perfect, and as the main theme. It would make people forget about the horrible Madonna'a theme.

Yeah, if they were really smart, they would've saved 'If The World' and used it as the theme to 'Quantum of Solace', the new Bond flick. It sounds like it was written to be a Bond theme, but it's cool that it's in this movie...

I saw the movie last night with my father. The movie was ok. I was a bit disappointed. If The World sounds really good! I
agree that it would have been better for the new James Bond movie. My father, who introduced me to Guns music 20 years ago,
liked the song. He thought that Axl's voice sounds a little bit higher now.

Anybody who's seen the movie, is there any buzz about the song in the theater?  I would kind of doubt it, as people are there to see the movie and probably don't give a hoot about the song.  But anyone hear any mentions?  Maybe, is that Axl or something to that effect?

i was looking out for that, but i didn't see it happening. a few people were sitting through the whole end credits. most people left immediately when the movie was over. but i guess i was not the only one in the cinema (at loes lincoln square) that was there because of gnr... saw some dudes with long hair giving each other a look when if the world started...

Saw the movie last night. The placement of the song is perfect. It sort of forces those in the audience to hear most of it if you want to see the final images of the movie. As for the quality, it's the same as what I have already (hehe).

so did Pittman write the guitar parts or did Axl? Seems his guitar lessons have really played off if he wrote that

or is it like NR and Estranged, where Bucket or whoever wrote the flaminco type parts but it isn't considered enough to be a songwriting credit?
Songwriting credits are for music AND lyrics.

NR has guitar too.

You're asking who wrote the guitar parts and assume it's either Chris or Axl since they're the credited song writers.

She says there have been examples in the past where no guitar player has been credited as a songwriter on the track.

So, what's the problem?

I think it may be just confusion, I dunno Ive made demos and had a guitar player play on tracks, they didn't technically write the music, only add riffs, or licks, but not necessarily be composer of the song they added to. Then again Ive had demos done where The guitar player actually really had major influence in how the song structurally was done. And Ive copyrighted accordingly. Credits giving where there was much structural changes, with song on behalf of the guitarist.. and non cre4dit where it didn't structurally change  the song, only added, and it was done so with all parties agreeing.

She said songwriting credits are for lyrics and music and I was simply pointing out that Guitar is music. I feel if the guitar is a heavy contributer to the song, that should count as credit.

Whoever wrote the flaminco guitar thing, should get credit for it cause its a huge awesome part of the song that elevates it.

And you think you have to be a great guitar virtuoso to come up with a melody played on a guitar?

Song writing means. Lyrics and chord progression. The reason Axl wrote all of November Rain is because he wrote the Piano part and the lyrics. Rest of the instruments were just their own flavors added in.

So I'm assuming that If The World was something Axl and Pittman put together jamming and then the rest of the band joined in and put in what they could add to the song. That's why you get so many flavors of Keyboard jam, Exotic guitar and heavy rock guitars in parts with a blues solo. Technically this is a really solo musical song.

Aren't yourself a musician? You should know exactly what means songwriting.

Solos, riffs and arrangements are not included in this category. I don't know how you can argue with that.

Brain did an AMAZING job on If The World, by far one of his best contributions (along with Rhiad). Did he get any credits?

Who cares. It's a good song. Written by Brittney Spears and done by Guns I'd be happy with it.
