I thought the movie looked good anyway, but know it will be a must see.
Agreed, long before I knew about the rumors then this confirmation I wanted to see it.

It's actually an action/semi-political thriller that takes place in the Middle East (Iraq I think). And 'If the World' is neither a rocker nor ballad. It's got a very "Arabian" sound to it, though, and I'm sure that's why it was picked. The lyrics apparently don't fit with the movie. It's cool, though...

I disagree, being Arabic myself, I believe the song sounds very "Latin" as far a the guitar anyway. It also sounds very "Mike Patton/Lovage". It is a very, very sexy song. You could easily imagine Santana playing the opening riff, and further riffs.

System of a Down has mastered the "Arabic" sound.

First of all they arent going to interrupt a movie that will gross 100 mil domestically to say, "NEW GNR SONG AT END OF CREDITS."  not going to happen.  That would make the movie look cheap and take people out of the experience.  Trust me, Ridley Scott, Leonardo Dicaprio and Russel Crowe have way too big of egos to think they have to sell their movie with a GNR song.  Also if you are wondering what If the World sounds like all you have to do is take IRS, subtract the rock and add some latin pop beat and thats what you get.  I really dont know why GNR is leading with the weaker songs.

trust me dude this song is not weak really shows off axls vocal ability and appeals to the type of audience seeing this movie. i see it as, Shackler's Revenge appealing to the pre teens/teenagers when If The World appeals to adults

while I like the song I don't think it fits the movie... it's too sexy and almost porno, which doesnt make it very serious.. (not that there's anything wrong with that , but the movie is serious.... I think)

too sexy?  wow is this really the best description for this song?  Again, this song sounds a lot like IRS and honestly just makes me want to listen to IRS which shows off Axl's voice more.  Maybe the final version of If The World will actually be Axl's voice and not some super synthesized pro tools nonsense, but If the World still definitely lacks that anger and rock that is in so many gnr songs, while also not having the deep and passionate feelings of one of GNR's ballads.  Also, this song doesnt have an alt-chorus which it definitely needs and that so many of songs that otherwise would be weaker GNR songs include.

"If The World" sounds like "I.R.S."?  Wow, that's.....interesting.  I disagree completely with your assessment of its lack of "deep feeling".  I have no idea what an "alt" chorus is, but the song has a great chorus.  It's one of the strengths of the song.

It has the same line delivery as IRS and you can call it an alternative chorus or a finale or whatever youd like to call it, but GNR are the kings of using that structure.  Also the rhyme and rhythm schemes are very similar between if the world and IRS.  If you want just interchange the lyrics and sing them along with either IRS or If The World and it works almost too well.  Im disappointed with the lyrics in if the world and shacklers revenge and I dont quite get what Axl's doing.  Theres too much backstreet boys rhyming.  He rhymes the word "me" with the word "me" like 10 times in If the world and the other rhymes are all "away, say, today." Too me that just lacks inspiration and feels forced and contrived.  Im not going to get into the wicked demon debate again, but that same "say, way, today" rhyming is used in IRS and i dont think both songs should be on the cd.  Also, the IRS lyrics are so much deeper and the song is so much stronger.  It is harder rock, the version that was released has purer vocals, better lyrics, better structure.  It contains everything If The World does, but much more.   I assume its ok to discuss both songs since IRS has been played live and the movie that contains If the World had several advanced screenings in the U.S. last night.  Se

Stylistically, the two songs are nothing alike.  You are nitpicking with rhyming schemes.  That's a pretty trivial and stupid thing to focus on, I have to say.
