How can you say the song won't fit the movie when you have not seen the movie or heard the finished version of the song?

I am super-excited any new gnr song is going to be in a movie. Regardless of what it is, its new music and that is fucking fantastic!  ok smoking

Wow, if I were Axl and I read this board and heard some the junk science speculation on shit you people know nothing about.   I would probably just do a cover album of all of Limp Bizkits music and release it as CD.   Furthermore, do you think there going to stick a song into a movie and it doesnt fit.  Shacklers Revenge is going to play in the background of THe Breakfast Club remake.  Shouldnt it be the blues.  I am drunK an dont care.  Embrace new GNR releases.  Or go root for Brett Favre..  You stupid fanboys.  Axl knows what he is doing.  Hes had plenty of time to think this one out.  He probably lives on same block as Leo, Russel and Ridley Scott.  There probably just all pulled this together after a drunken block party.  Which makes its pretty fucking rocking.  Leo, Russel and Axl have very similar relationships with the press.  I bet these three fuckers really get along.

Promoting music today is way diffrent from the last time UYI's were released.  Each song can cater to an audience of diffrent age groups, plus generating more intrest in Guns N' Roses.  Take for a example a 21 yr old girl could go see Body Of Lies and hear If The World and say " Oh I like this song who is it ?" thus creating a new fan ! Axl is no stranger in putting music into Movies.  You hear these two new song's and then you drop your first single with a video creating even more promotion and leading into the release of Chinese Democracy.

If they are going to play during the closing credits, why wouldn't it be on the soundtrack ?
In a different thread, I was asking where 'new' SCOM played in Big Daddy...it was not on soundtrack...poster claimed it was over credits, but I don't have the movie, and can't check.  I thought only version was Sheryl Crowe...but, perhaps this is a common thing, after all, the credits roll after 'the end' - perhaps that is where soundtrack ends.  Anyone who knows please respond...

Also possible that whomever wrote this piece was looking at 'soundtrack' available for order online...has only the 'score', or classical instumental pieces.  I am sure there are more 'real' songs on the actual soundtrack, which will eventually be available (Oct 7th?).
The Sheryl Crowe version of SCOM was played during the movie and appeared on the soundtrack.  The GNR version was played during the closing credits and did not appear on the soundtrack.  The first half of the song was performed by the original lineup and halfway through the "new" lineup (at the time) kicked in and played the rest of the song.

And for people saying "If The World" doesn't fit the movie, I think it's a little premature to say that.  First off, I wouldn't classify ITW as strictly a "love song", and without seeing Body of Lies I wouldn't strictly classify it as a thriller without any sense of romance.  Is it possible there's one girl in the movie who Leo may lust after?  Rarely do they make movies where there's a bunch of dudes running around with no women in sight.

Also, the part of SCOM from the original line-up was live and I think Duff and Slash may have sued, IIRC.

I hate to dump on this movie - but it is 'The Departed' (great Boston movie - to pronounce correctly say "th(a) dep-aaah-t(i)d)", but on a global scale, with the mob's part played by terrorists.  Not very original, and strangely Leonardo Diprickleo is playing the same character in both movies.  I will hopefully be in theater to see something else, and be able to sneak into this flick for closing credits!

As for SCOM in BD...I can't believe I missed that...now I need to go rent it, since they voice over credits on TV - if they run them at all.

The Departed was a great movie.  DiCaprio made some pretty good movies recently. The Avaitor, Departed, Blood Diamond, Body of Lies will be good with Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe.  Not to mention Titanic, while I'm not a huge fan of the movie, its the highest grossing of all time.

So this is not a risk by GNR to have a song on Body of Lies.  The movie will be good.

The novel of Body of Lies is pretty good... if the film captures it... it could be an oscar contender for sure. it's sick that GN'R released a song to them. No movie producer would not accept a GN'R song, it'd be seriously stupid. Can't wait to hear the final version...

I definitely wouldn't go with If The World for a soundtrack release.

Axl must be very confident in his material now.  Hope he knows what he's doing.

I think "If the World" fits this type of movie very well. As others have said... "If the World" immediately reminded me of the songs usually played during the beginning animated sequences of James Bond movies. It will fit in well with this spy movie as well IMHO. No problem. Axl, Russell and Leo... AWESOME. Now just sit back and enjoy. peace

depend on it it will fit.  it's the director of the sf classic, alien, right?

it depends on when in a film a song is used. t's during the closing credits.
after a drama of the brutal world of terror, you'll need cooling and soothing.

Who's to say Axl chose it?  It isnt Axls film. And im sure the filmmakers wouldnt just say "Axl, give me a song."   They probably chose the song from a group of songs deemed "releasable" by Axl and Co.   Or, someone involved with the film heard If the World, and wanted it for the credits.

Hopefully it's at the beginning of the credits, so people walking out of the theater will be able to hear at least a portion of the song. I don't know many people that wait and watch the credits at the end of a movie. All of us would watch the credits just to hear the song, but most people going to watch this movie will be totally unaware that a new GN'R song is playing during the credits.

Even better if the song were to start playing 20-30 seconds before the credits begin at the very end of the movie... I guess we won't find out until we actually see the movie...
