I love it when the guitar comes in with that mean riff !

Yes, the heavy guitars are great!

The Arabic guitars show me a scenery of a boundless barren land and a lonely moon. Guess I'm not sexy.
IMO, the accoustic guitars are more spanish then something else.

I was referring to the tune. As A in jimmy page's "CIA" tuning (Celtic, Indian and Arabic.)
Didn't Arabic music have heavy influence on Spanish via moors?

Arabic music influenced flamenco.

and so did it other Spanish folk music as well as some opera, rock and so on.

are you implying the guitar's precisely flamenco?

Not sure if it's precisely flamenco. I'm pretty ignorant about guitar styles. It sounds similar to flamenco.

to me as well  yes and unsure of what style it exactly is. Where are all our guitar specialists from Spain or the Mideast?

Gypsies have drifted about.

To the guys questioning if this is flamenco playing or not.....no, it's not flamenco, it just sounds a bit like it here and there. It's more fusion jazzy rock played on an electro spanish/classical guitar.

I like Bucket's work on this, ace.

And yeah, take away Arabic music and you have no flamenco --> no development of acoustic guitar --> etc.

bono would go 'Save the world!'

http://www.crystalair.com/content.php?id=G0200903005

DUBLIN (CAP) - As U2 prepares to launch its latest world tour, lead singer Bono says he's done with philanthropy and will now spend his spare time "looking out for No. 1."
"I'm done saving the world," said the U2 frontman this week. "I'm a rock star and I'm going to start living like one. The third world can reduce its own bleedin' debt."...
...Meanwhile, Guns 'N Roses frontman Axl Rose has announced his intention to end world hunger by 2012.

my point is not who in particular he's singing to either.

You said the word love is thrown too cheap seeing it as just his to someone near him like everyone else but I see more.

Whose love would just slip away at the end of the world? Not just the singers and his loved ones. But also yours and everyones in the world.
when our history ends, the dreams we humans have had, everything human have made for some millenniums will drift away into the silence of the dark cosmos.
aliens that arrive this planet 5670 million years later or so to find the ruins may find our far behind technology retard but can they relate to our art, literature, music, thoughts, sentiments, jokes, which even your dog doesn't?

we are so alone in the universe. Do other creatures even feel lonely? Do androids dream of electric sheep?

When you think of the end of the world, don't you feel that our species are so dear and precious to you?

Na I'm not saying that is what this song is meant, but, as axl said he?d like people to develop their own relationship with the songs a bit, this song make me think of our planet?s uniqueness in the space. Think of our/ human's solitude in the entire universe.

this song...kinda...gosh, hard to describe..! I'll try my best.

if the entire planet got blown to hades, it's almost too hard to imagine the billions of souls getting judged and going to heaven or hell (if you subscribe to that theory or any kind of life after death). It'd be too much effort. So we'd just be drifting out in the cosmos with all our unfinished business and hopes and wishes and love and lust for life that was denied us, we'd be bound together in some dreamtime reality. And it'd be kinda nice because humanity would be united in something at last...dreaming of each other.

I sorta feel that we'd be nothing but our drifting dreams, if the world ended.

(I wouldn't say we're alone in the universe, though. Unique, and isolated, yes, but not alone...far from it...)

on the other hand, if it's more of an 'ending of the world-as-we-know-it', all our hopes and dreams would be crushed and shattered. can't you imagine the dead look in people's eyes? To think of all the lost opportunities and 'what-ifs'.

In some small way, this song tells me to seize the day and not waste time dreaming of love. Not to fear making your own dreams come true.

I saw this article the other day and I was like  Shocked ! we aren't alone.

http://gizmodo.com/5238308/get-ready-humanity-because-space-is-a-freak-show

"The WOW! Signal. Or, Holy Crap, Alien Avon Calling!

Before Jodie Foster implored humanity to send poets to document the denizens of Vega, there was a real-life signal from the heavens that has, to date, remained one of the most compelling pieces of evidence that we are not alone.
Called the WOW! signal, this 72-second beacon was detected by Dr. Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977..."

 the WOW! signal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcSWDzd2cDU&feature=related fyi

"So, was it aliens? If we get off this rock and jet off into the stars, will we one day find the source of this mysterious signal? Who knows, as subsequent attempts made over the past 20 years to locate the Wow! signal, or another one like it, have failed. Even when more powerful systems were implemented, like the Hollywood-friendly Very Large Array in New Mexico, the results were all the same: Utter silence.

If you'll yourself a bit of wishful thinking, however, the idea that this was some kind of powerful last-ditch burst of radiation from a dying alien race is not implausible. As detailed by author and astronomer David Darling, the Wow! signal could have been generated by an alien civilization with access to a transmitting dish like our Arecibo radio telescope. They'd also need a 2.2-gigawatt transmitter?extremely powerful, but plausible for humans (and definitely plausible if your race is, say, facing extinction)."

I was just curious as to who decided to put this song in Body Of Lies. I loved the movie, but it was a huge commercial flop. Americans don't want to see movies about Iraq. The Hurt Locker may have won best picture, but it made very little money. A GNR song needs to be in a movie with a more youth oriented market that will be a mega-blockbuster like IronMan2 or Avatar2. That's how an artist gets buzz in the industry these days to get airplay on the radio. Estranged would have been a great choice for Shutter Island. yes

Yep. As we were packing up band practice last night, I threw the CD vinyl on and was really rocking out to ITW. The groove is SOOOOOO infectious.

Yeah, unfortunately the last two films GNR has had NEW songs in haven't done too well.  Although "Body Of Lies" wasn't as bad as "End Of Days", so maybe the next one they'll strike gold.  The cast was great for "Body Of Lies", but as you said the timing with the subject matter didn't really relate to the public interest.

When I first heard this song, I was in a state of shock. I kept on listening to it the whole summer, and still do. I love the part halfway through the first and second verse, when that sexy guitar riff comes in. In the first verse it's just as Axl says "But in my heart I found, the feelings that I've never shown" and in the second it's when Axl says "But your the only one, I have ever loved that has ever loved me".

A really groovy and sexy song.  love

Yeah, this song and Shackler's were the 2 songs that when I first heard I had a "What the hell is this?" reaction.  It was just so different from what I expected.  But both songs grew on me quickly, and I love how different they are.
